Something so right

Chapter 79

Tina gently guided the last of the visitors out of the front door of the building – she watched as the slightly inebriated couple stumbled into a cab. Tina closed the door and locked the door before heading back upstairs. It was midnight and finally the stellar event that was grand exhibition at the Bette Porter gallery was officially closed. Tina went upstairs and rejoined Bette who was standing in the huge, now deserted gallery – there were only two pieces that had not been sold- this had been Bette’s greatest triumph of the gallery’s three and a half year history.

“All gone ?” Bette asked as Tina joined her and slipped an arm around her waist

“Yes – they were a hoot “

“Friends of Peggy – you might not believe it but they made their money from organic yoghurt”

Tina chuckled “Maybe I should suggest that to my parents “

“I am really glad that you and your mom seem to be getting on better “

Tina sighed and rested her head on Bette’s shoulder

“I think one consequence of the fire is that I have grown up a little bit. Its their lives and however they decide to live it is really none of my business – as they keep telling me they have been together almost 28 years – that takes work “

“But in your defence that’s only easy to say if its not your mother and father”

“True “ Tina kissed Bette’s neck “ You okay ?”

“Tired – I am glad its all over – I need to make decisions about what my next exhibition will be “

“Will you retain most of the existing artists – the ones that I have spoken to all seem delighted ?”

“They would be foolish to show their work anywhere else “ Bette admitted “ But there are always a few and I do want to stick to a theme – something that ties all the work together. I was thinking of indulging one of my favourite themes – women in all forms “
