Chapter 71
Tina had been staring at Bette for several minutes – her head was fuzzy with the lack of sleep and she knew that Bette was feeling the same.
“You really think we should be making a life changing decision when neither of us have slept ?”
“Why have you not slept ? “ Bette asked truculently
Tina couldn’t believe the staggering childishness that Bette was displaying at the moment
“Because I have been driving up and down the coast looking for you – I should have figured out that you would come here”
“You have been driving all night ?” Bette sounded slightly surprised
“Yes “ Tina snapped back “ On account of being worried sick about what sort of state you were in. Do you imagine that I cam home and went to bed ? “
“I – I didn’t think “
“And you are not thinking now if you cannot see that this is emotional blackmail “
Tina stood up
“I am only going to say this one more time Bette – I love you – I want to spend the rest of my life with you – I want a family with you. I am prepared to make a commitment to you that excludes all others. My body and my heart forever. I will even wear your ring but I am not going to be blackmailed into getting married. I am going home to sleep. When you have stopped acting like a child come home and find me and we will talk “
Feeling like her heart was about to explode with grief Tina walked out of Bette’s office and headed for the stairs. She reached the ground floor before she sank onto a chair and let her tears come flooding out. She was so upset that Bette just seemed incapable of reaching out and meeting her half way or even discussing what Tina’s fears were. She couldn’t believe that she had just walked away from Bette – maybe Bette would never come around – she was obstinate enough and Tina just knew that the phrase – cutting off your nose to spite your face could have bee coined by B.Porter.

love the drama in your stories because i know you will fix it :) i liked that tina walked away but not before her declaration of love. glad that alice redeemed herself too. can’t wait for the next chapter!

Yes you are the best drama queen that I ever saw. Wow but you have a way to fix things and return them back as they were. Maybe Bette will see now that all this crap that she was saying won’t matter and only being with Tins does matter after all and not getting her own way. Both are stubborn,but forcing Tina to get married is not the answer. To me that is sorta like blackmail. Let them live together for a couple of yrs and if the want children then get married. If I was told to marry me or go. I would run like hell. I might break my heart but go I would. thanks

You little drama queen, you. I did not know how you were going to get our girls out of this one. I’m a rabid Tibetter, but as I was reading this all I could think was “Run, Tina run”. Hopefully Tina will be okay and Bette will realize what she could have last and chill out a little. Great update!

drama queen, you? no way.. you are just exagerating *rolleyes*. Geeez woman.. this tummy bug is making you become like IC!! haha (kidding my queen, kidding). I honestly think Bette is being a little too much egocentric (maybe is the wiskey and the lack of sleep).. but I think she should meet Tina half way (at least listen her fears and try to compromise on something not by blackmailing her but by talking and understanding eachothers points of view). drama queen is an understatement. Tina should not give in to Bette’s ultimatums….Bette should get of her high horse and understand where Tina is coming from. Bette’s ignorance is so childish (not in a cute way) that it’s annoying!!!
LOL! Good one Ally! I was feeling all smug as I read page 1 – all playing out as I though it should. And yet – I knew page 3 would hold more high drama. You just can’t help yourself, can you? LOL. PPS.
I had to smile when I read your note. I understand why Tina can’t simply say “Yes”. It would be the worst start for both. It has to come from heart. I will just wait and see how both compromise (it they do, but I’m pretty certain).
Nope I’m old fashioned, if getting married is a real option, get married, don’t play house. They are already living together and Tina has planned her life to include Bette and kids. If you are that far down the road, you need to either get married or lay out a plan as what you want/need in order to get there. If Tina never wants to marry Bette it is realistic of Bette to decide to move on. This is one of those deal breaker issues that should have come up much earlier in the relationship before even moving in together.
It seems rational to live together for a couple of years and then reconsider marriage. Of course, now Bette will run to her side and be apologetic. She ‘ll wring her hands and ask what did she do? If they had been together, this wouldn’t have happened. Does it always take a crisis before one realizes loss? Great story. PPS.

I just don’t see how you want to spend your life with someone AND bring kids into the equation w/o getting married IF marriage is a legitimate option. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t get Tina’s rationale. If there were logistial issues (let me finish my degree, financial hurdle to overcome, previous relationship to resolve, etc.)

Welp, danger/near-death certainly trumps such questions as whose stubborn idea of commitment means more. If the idea of a more permanent loss doesn’t bring them round, then I don’t think anything will. I hope the next post is soon. Thanks for the chapter.
AllyE, the drama queen is back in full force. This is a hard one. They love each other to pieces but the ultimatum has to go and it is so unfair of Bette to do so. She knows how Tina feels about her parents marriage and knew that would color how she felt about marriage or at least she should have. She should not place their lives on this ultimatum because Tina is just as stubborn as she and will not give in. Maybe this fire accident will change both their minds and make them back down, especially Bette. Knowing you, you already have it worked out, please just get them back together. Hopefully Tina is just sufering from a little smoke inhalation and nothing more serious.Please put them back together AllyE. Hope you are feeling better. Post when you can.

Damn Ally…that was some really good writing!!!! Oh Bette…she just has to take everything to the extreme…but she loves Tina and seemingly fate has intervened into this impasse. Bette will now crumble when faced with the real loss of Tina…and Tina will have her way of no marriage. Ally…that really was an exceptional chapter of palpable dialogue!
