Someone to Watch over Me – 10

    Oh geez, thought Tina.

“What a big girl,” Bette smiled.  “Can I come in?”

“Oh, ah, of course.  Absolutely, come in.”  Tina shut the door behind Bette and gazed at her.  They stood for a minute before proceeding into the apartment side-by-side.  They sat together on the couch.  “Bette, what are you doing here?  I mean, I’m thrilled to see you, naturally, I just didn’t expect to see you until we talked Monday,” Tina rambled.  Bette sat and smiled, waiting for her to calm.  When she did, Tina returned the smile and sighed.  “I’m sorry.  I’m just a little… on edge…  Hi.”

“Hi yourself.  Why are you on edge?”

“Nothing major, I guess.  Just, well…”

    “Yes?”

“I’m in love with the most beautiful, intelligent, warm, perfect woman.”

“I see.  So, what’s the problem?  Doesn’t she love you back?”

“Of course she does, who wouldn’t?”

“Ego much?” questioned Bette as she lifted her eyebrow.

“Just a little.  But, see, that’s the problem.”

    “I don’t see how.”

“I thought I could never have her.  But now it turns out that she loves me too, and everything I’ve ever wanted it possible.”

“I still don’t see what the problem is.”

“I don’t know how to tell her.”

“Well,” Bette pretended to go deep in thought, “why don’t you set up a romantic scenario.  Invite her over for dinner and really do it up, candles, flowers, romantic music, the whole bit.  Then, somewhere after wine and before dessert, tell her, take her in your arms, and sweep her off her feet.”

“That’s a good plan…  But I have another idea, in case it comes up before I get a chance to do that.”

    “What’s that?”

“Ask her if she’d like to stay and join me for a glass of wine and a movie.  Then, if that goes well, take her out to lunch the next day, as we always do-“

“Always?  And she didn’t know you love her and vice versa?”

“Ridiculous, isn’t it?  Anyway, we’ll have lunch and keep on like that for, oh, I guess the rest of forever.  And if that proves to not be long enough, I guess we can always explore continuing forever for… forever.”

    “Sounds like a beautiful plan.”

“I like it.”  They beamed at each other.  “Come here.”

    1. That was absolutely lovely. Astaire and Rogers as a metaphor for Bette and Tina, that was lovely too. I can’t wait ’til you post your other story. Thanks for this, it was great, NY.

    2. Enjoyed the story…sweet, cute, great metaphor…but please post the next story soon, don’t tease. We all know where it is going and who doesn’t love a good B&T lovin’.

    3. NYGL…..This was wonderful and I so loved the Fred and Ginger comparison. On the show when they are together and not bitching at each other, they are truly soulmates.

    4. NY NY this was a wonderful story…I am sad to see it go but I am okay because you assured us you would write again. You wrote those 2 so well…and I am glad it ended happily. I am looking forward to reading more from you…oh and nothing wrong with being a film nerd…I heard there is a certain sexiness there.

    5. Good God woman, you are a hopeless romantic yourself. how could I ever tire of you? Your story was nothing, but first class and deserves a follow up, for us hopeless romantics. I will miss you till you write again. B

    6. WOw…. I just love the way you write… can you write more? Gosh… I know thise is like the longest chapter you have? But still I can’t have enough… and sorry, I didn’t mean to rub my hot weather here on your nose… it’s just that I need to get out from this country to somewhere cooler for once ;) Post soon… on this story or another once… pleaaasseee… :D

    7. Lovely…and could be lovlier with the follow-up (raising my eyebrows suggestively here!!!!)…more…more…more…I even like the environment/their work situation, friends etc…so NO STOPPING NOW…

    8. I figured there would be dancing in this chapter. I just wasn’t sure if it was a waltz, a quickstep, or the horizontal boogie. xD Such a sweet and awesome story. And believe it or not, the two pairs of heels got me all choked up. Don’t ever worry about being a movie geek. I’m a music geek and damn proud of it. Here’s to TiBette and Fringer (wow that sounds odd).

    9. Wow, so Tina feels totally whole now and I also figure that Bette feels the same way. Great story and I can’t wait for the next story that you take up.

    10. What a sweet ending to a beautiful story. Thank you so much for posting, you did great! Hope you have another story in store for us, so don’t keep us waiting too long ;-)
