“I did wonder if maybe mom or I should speak to Kate – make her see sense. What happens with you and her is between the two of you – but I don’t like to see Tina upset”

“The ones in the cabinet? She was pretty upset with Kate – as I said – she likes fair play and to betray the firm – she doesn’t like it one bit. I have persuaded her that for now she shouldn’t bring it up with her – if she gets in touch that is”

“If I hand the papers in – she’s finished as a lawyer. It’s a serious offence and just because she was trying to get back at me is not going to be a defence. She has lots of friends in the firm – people who think that I am a monster and that having to put up with me justifies just about anything and everything” Emma took another drink of wine “ But those papers are the smoking gun – she is toast after they come out”
“Seems to me you are having doubts about handing them over “
“I am because when I do – she’s finished as a lawyer, she will lose a lot of friends and it really will be the final nail in the coffin of our marriage – she would never forgive me for reporting on her “

“We are too sober for a discussion about ethics “ Bette said “But I would say that she was happy to sell you and all her friends down the river for whatever motive. Regardless of how pissed she was with you – what she did was really low. There comes a time when you have to protect yourself and that means your firm and the people in it. I have no idea what is going on with her but you cannot wait around hoping that she comes to her senses. Seems she planned what she did – those documents were dated a few months before she left you”
