    Single chapter story


    "Feeling stressed?" 

    "Not at the moment," Tina replied. They continued to move together, interrupting only to remove clothing.

    Bette was just about to lower Tina’s shorts off as she kissed below her navel when she heard the unmistakable sound of shuffling feet down the quiet hallway. She felt Tina shift up the bed and reach for her top. She obviously heard it too.

    "I had a bad dream," Angelica said from the doorway to their bedroom. She held one of her favorite dolls in her hand as she rubbed one eye with a curled up fist.

    Bette arranged the sheet to cover herself. She still had a top on but was otherwise entirely naked.

    "How come you don’t have any pants on?" Angie asked.

    "I was going to have a shower, but I thought I’d have a rest first," Bette replied. What do you say to a four year old?

    "Can I sleep in here?" Angie asked. "I’m scared."

    "There’s no need to be scared," Tina said, reaching for her, the invitation to come in implicit in her body language. "You know it was just a dream…"

    Bette reached for her bottoms with a bit of a sigh, slipping them on under the sheet that now covered her.

    "Maybe I won’t bother with a shower after all," she said.

    Tina scooted into the middle of the bed and let Angie crawl in beside her.

    "Thanks Mommy," Angie said. "Even though it was a dream, it was still scary. And I know you and Mom always like it when I visit."

    "We do honey," Bette’s words agreed with what Angie was saying, but her tone was skeptical. 

    It didn’t take long for Angie to fall back to sleep, comforted as she was by the presence of her parents.

    "Do you want to go to her bed?" Bette whispered into Tina’s ear.

    "We could…she does have a big bed," Tina seemed to be seriously considering the suggestion. "Maybe we’ll get up early and shower together instead?"

    "I guess we’ve been thwarted for the evening," Bette admitted defeat.

    "Tomorrow," Tina suggested with a smile. "She doesn’t do this very often."

    "I know," Bette said. "But what are you going to do about stress relief now?"

    "The stress melts away when I have you two," Tina said. "I’ll deal with the events of the tomorrow better because I have you here now."

    "Shouldn’t it always be so easy to let go of what causes anxiety?"

    "When you’ve got a lot of love, everything else seems of little consequence," Tina replied.

    "You’ve got a lot of love," Bette pulled her closer. "And a good night’s sleep ahead."

    Their quiet conversation continued until they fell asleep in each others arms, comforted by the love and presence of family.
