Chapter 11 – Dates & Exes
Monday is off to a rocky start for Harper, she decides to get herself out of the office for lunch. She retreats to her favorite deli in Santa Monica. She knows going at peak lunch hour time is a mistake but she doesn’t care.
The place is even more packed then she suspected it would be. Harper politely makes her way through the crowd to take a number. She is number 62 and they are only on 13. In the interest of sanity she finds a basket and starts cruising the aisles of imported Italian food.
Harper’s eyes scan the aisle that is devoted to olive oil trying to find just the right one. Little does she know that Dana is slowly making her way toward her.
“Hey stranger.” Dana says.
Harper turns, “Hey!” She says, her voice full of surprise. “What are you doing here?”
“Getting lunch.” Dana smiles, “Don’t you just love this place?”
“Yeah, but I usually try to beat the lunch crowd.”
“Oh my God, I know.”
“What number are you?” Harper asks.
“Twenty nine.” Dana says looking at her ticket.
“Sixty two!” Harper says showing hers to Dana.
“You’ll be here for an hour.”
“Won’t be the first time.”
“Order with me and give your number to someone else.” Dana says.
“Only if you’ll sit and eat with me.” Harper smiles.
“Ok.” Dana says.
The girls eat lunch on the tailgate of Harper’s Blazer.
“So how are things with you and Alice?” Harper asks before biting into her sandwich.
“They’re really good.” Dana says almost blushing.
“I’m glad you guys worked everything out. It’s always nice when two people who belong together find each other.”
“Yes, it’s nice when fate draws two people perfect for each other together.” Dana says as a hint. “Even if the path that gets them there is a little unusual.”
“You trying to tell me something Dana?” Harper asks knowing full well what she means.
Dana just shrugs her shoulders, smiles and bites into her sandwich.

lOVE THAT HARPER She is so honest and above board. I love the way she treats our Shane. and love that Carmen knows that she missed out on Shane and that she admired that she is jealous of her and Harper. thanks
Harper & Shane r great 4 one another. Great that Harper isn’t a punk when it comes to her ex. Love how you’ve incorporated the group into your story. Especially how Shane can rely on Bette & Carmen to be honest & sincere confidants. Absolutely wonderful story.
