    Author Notes:

    Her heart was beating fast and her hands were throbbing and the stinging in her legs was sure to cripple her walk when she stood, but she still didn’t want to go home. It was at home that she saw Tina’s shadow the most, her stature defeated and broken.

    Present Day

     

    “Bette Sweetie, you want to just stop here we can pick up tomorrow, right at the chorus?”

     

    “No, no, no we’re almost there. I think?” Bette said putting the boards back to the position she had it 2 seconds ago, thinking it might be different this time.

     

    “Yeah but we’ve been on the one chorus for 5 hours, I think I need a break from this one.” she said grabbing at her throat to indicate the strain. “Hi Shane.” she said and smiled as she saw Shane peak through the door and slip in unnoticed by Bette.

     

    “Hey Linme.” she said smiling at the young artist.

     

    Bette looked back and forth between the two, the young girl smiling adoringly at Shane while she smiled back in her usual casual self.

     

    “Linme? What the fuck is that?” Bette asked still bent over the boards but contorting to look Shane directly in the face.

     

    “What, we go way back it’s a nick name she had when we met.”

     

    “Meaning what exactly?”

     

    “The Light In Me, I believe.” Shane said mentally scanning her brain for the correct words to the acronym.

     

    Bette rolled her eyes and continued with what she was doing. As of lately everyone and everything was tap dancing on her last nerve. For days now everyone wanted to stop by see how she was doing, how was she holding up, wanted to console her, hold her through what they imagined to be endless streams of tears. All of the mock endearment was bordering on insanity to her. In the studios she could hide out and tear herself away from her mind and all thoughts of Tina, or so she thought.

     

    Bette looked back at her artist and saw that she was all of sudden acting like a love struck teenager in front of Shane, twirling her hair and looking back at her smiling as the blush rushed to her cheeks. It almost sickened Bette to see it.

     

    “Alright we’ll umm, pick up on Thursday. I think you need a couple of days to rest anyway.” Bette nowadays was unusually cruel to her talent. Usually she gave gentle pushes towards where she knew their talent could take them, but she was direct, harsh and mean-spirited with her critiques. Shane couldn’t believe what she saw and heard come from her friend. The artist being young and happy to get away from Bette the tyrant, took the remark and ran out of the studio saying quick goodbyes and giving small smiles.

    2. i know whatever remaining chapters there are will have me on the edge of my seat or my heart in my throat, laughing, crying or all of the above….like how bette drummed to try to release all she was feeling, i’ve often wished i knew how to play drums for just that reason! Thx & can’t wait to see bette get to texas, that was perfect…just what tina needed to do after how things were left between them – of course bette would be unsure & this is the greenlight that she needed

    9. I’m guessing that text was from Bobbi. I already like her…now I think I love her if she did that. Now Bette, get that ticket booked and go see Tina! Great update…please post again soon.

    11. Is it Tina or is it Bobbi Lee trying to help Tina???? I think Bobbi has great potential as a friend that can help them without the baggage. I hope someone can get through to the two of them before Bette falls completely apart. Great chapter!
