    Chapter 21

    "Bette…." Tina whispered her voice audibly shaking. "… tell me you heard that?" 
    Her body froze and her heart thumped violently. The reason for it this time, however, had nothing to do with the heavenly body which lay below her.
    Tina had suddenly come to the realisation that they were outdoors, and despite being in the relative closeness of a sumptuous shelter, they were none the less in the middle of the wilderness and this very same wilderness was home to an awful lot of varied species some of them a definite and dangerous threat.
    Bette’s voice came over very quietly. "I have, honey, I have…..," the soothing tone blew softly out of the vet’s mouth and directly into Tina’s ear. "I need you to be as quiet as you can, baby, okay?" 
    The brunette looked directly at the woman above her as she spoke and tried her best to reassure her lover at the same time. In an unconscious reaction, the vet’s eyes turned in the direction of where the noise had come from and her head titled back slightly too. She was silently assessing their situation. 
    Considering where they lived, it did not take a genius to know that what was approaching was definitely animal and wild but Bette was, however, still unsure as to the species and number. 
    Her mind returned immediately to the small lion pride she had seen the night before. Despite a more than adequate meal, it was not uncommon for lions to hunt even with full bellies. And those lions last night, had set up camp close enough to the compound, to make the house and its surroundings a new patch to explore and more worryingly new hunting grounds. She was under no illusion either that the lions were aware of the presence of the baby elephants. She had seen it all too often recently, the recent drought and scarcity of food had often placed young elephants as a new item of the large cats’ menu. On the bright side, lions were still very wary of humans.
    Bette decided that it would not take them long to reach the safety of the inside of the house. The sliding doors were still open. All it would take would be to make it to an upright position and then run for the door. There was only one obstacle in the path and that was the low lying table on which the remnants of their breakfast were still lying. It could easily be negotiated and the eventuality of a bruised shin would be nothing in comparison to a possible goring.

    2. Ma favourite line of this chapter?… “I thought you would never join me….” How perfectly worded, Tina Kennard!!… This chapter was absolutely wonderful, dear you! I loved the meeting between Tina and Ellie. It was beautiful and so vivid. I was there with them, and at one point, I was screaming “My turn, my turn, my turn…!” to touch the trunk and blow in it… By the way, how ambiguous is this acquainting method…? Have you actually checked this out, or are you just a sex-freak? *worried look*… Just kidding… Seriously though, how do you know all this stuff? You just know or do you do some research? Anyway, you got me on the edge of my seat during the first part. I could already see Bette playing hero and fighting a ferocious lion with a pancake or a coffee spoon. A lion that she would have vainquished of course, and from then on she would have been called Bette “Lioness” Porter. Grrrrr…. How sexy! Sorry, got distracted for a sec… Anyway, I was still relieved that it was just a friendly encounter… More seriously, this was a great chapter and I loved it, and I’m so glad that their little adventure didn’t make them stray from their great adventure… Thanks for the update, sweet friend! xxx Kw

Phew! that was a relieve, I was afraid they will meet the lions at that point, but thanks to u it is only Ellie it was a great add to the story, really I love it. and the way u describe the encounter is so vivid I felt I’m with them there;DAnd yes I’m from ME thank u, and welcome . Actually I feel blessed for being able to read ur story ;D

    15. That was frighting at first, then it became a sweet and sad moment, and then just so loving and tender. I had tears in my eyes as I read the exchange between Tina and Ellie and the story of the journey that Bette had with Ellie and the lost of her baby, and then I was truly gone when you see that Ellie’s new baby is still watching Bette and Tina as if to say a thank you to Bette for taking care of it’s Mom. Thank You So So Much For The Update.

    16. Thanks for such a wondeful update. Of course, we all thought of the lions when the low growling happened, glad it wasn’t. Your description of Ellie and her baby and the way Ellie wanted to say hello to Tina was just fabulous. Each time you post another chapter it turns into a trip to the savannah and all that one has to discover and enjoy there. Not to mention the adventure that our girls finally enjoyed with each other. Thanks for sharing a wonderfully loving story with us.

Though once I read word “Ellie” the one pops in my head is the pink cute elephant :-p and your writing sent me to the savannah, vividly-again! So amazing :-) I wonder do you keep elephant as your pet or ?? Hahaha… Coz it seems like you know so much about them! ;-) and it’s so sweet on how Tina interacted with Ellie! And the last 2 pages makes the room temperature warmer in this cooling mountains area… :-p lol

Everytime i read a post from you it’s either im the last to comment or the next to the last to comment and so my problem is all the wonderful people who had left their messages already used up all the positive adjectives to describe your writing and the story.
