Chapter ten

6 months had passed since they returned from their beautiful honeymoon and Bette and Tina were still happily in love. Even though they both worked very hard, they still found the time to be together, physically and mentally. Bette and Tina had talked about everything that crossed their minds, but they both were afraid to admit to each other that they wanted to start a family. They knew that they both wanted children, but were afraid it would be too soon. Bette wasnt going to keep pretending like the thought never crossed her mind so one morning she decided to tell Tina. They were having breakfast at the kitchen table on a Sunday morning.
Bette: T?
Tina: Yeah babe?
Bette: What do you think about expanding our family?
Tinas heart jumped a beat as she heard these words escape from her lovers lips.
Tina: I would love to have a baby with you!
Bette: Really? Cause Ive been thinking about it a lot the past few weeks but I just thought it would be to soon.
Tina: I thought the same thing! I was afraid of asking you too!
Bette: Wow. We shouldnt be scared to tell each other things anymore though. We seem to think alike.
Tina: Yeah, but still, its a huge thing.
Bette: I know. We have so many things we need to decide about.
Tina: I think we should handle the most important question first. Who will carry our child?
Bette: Id love to do it, but my grandmother died from alcoholism and my other grandmother and her sister both had different types of cancer. I dont want to pass those diseases to our child.
Tina: Nobody in my family suffered from any kind of disease so I guess I should be the one to carry our child then.
Bette: I think you would look very ***** pregnant T.
Tina: My guess is I will look huge. But if that means we can have our baby, I dont care. Id do anything to have a baby with you.
Tina leans in and plants a soft kiss on Bettes lips.
Bette: Who will we use as the donor?
Tina: Well I think he should be African American, healthy, smart, maybe artisticWhat do you think?
Bette: Yeah that works for me. Do you want the father to know the child? I think it would be safer to use a donor that we dont know, that way we wont get into any kind of trouble over the parental rights. I would just adopt our child.
Tina: I agree. Do you want to look over some files on the Internet this afternoon?
Bette: Sure. I cant wait to start a family with you T. I love you so much.
Tina: I love you more baby.

After searching on the Internet for a while, Bette and Tina found the perfect donor. He was very healthy, no diseases in his family at all, he graduated at Yale and now worked as an architect, so he was both smart and creative. He had already made five other women pregnant, so they were more certain of conceiving. They decided they would do the insemination at home. They called their doctor to make an appointment to make sure Tina was okay to give birth to a child. They were lucky, there was room for them Monday morning at 10.

When they entered the doctors office at quarter to 10, they were relieved to see that there werent to many people waiting. They made their presence known at the reception. Only 5 minutes later the receptionist led them inside Doctor Landons office.
Dr. Landon: Hi Bette, Tina. Take a seat.
Bette and Tina both sat down in a chair and held each others hand.
Dr. Landon: So you want to check if youre okay to give birth to a child? Have you thought over this before making the decision?
Tina: Yes, we are very certain.
Dr. Landon: Okay then. You can change in that room. Ill be with you in 5 minutes.
Bette and Tina walked over to the room. Bette helped Tina change into the gown. She gently caressed Tinas face and brushed her lips past Tinas.
Bette: I love you T. Im sure everything will be all right.

Bette and Tina left Dr. Landons office with a smile on their faces. They had received a green light. All they had to do now was wait till Tina would ovulate. They both went back to work. Bette had decided to surprise Tina with a home made dinner and left work early. She cooked dinner, set the table, turned on some music and just when she finished lighting the candles, Tina walked in the door. She dropped her things when she saw the beautifully decorated table. She walked over to Bette, both with smiles on their faces, and passionately kissed her wife while softly whispering loving words.
Bette: Hey babe.
Tina: I cant believe you did this Bette. Its just what I needed. I love you so much.
Bette: Im glad you like it T. Care to join me for dinner?
Tina: Id love to.

After a nice romantic dinner, Bette and Tina settled on the couch and watched a movie. Tina leaned back and relaxed in her soft lovers arms. She inhaled Bettes sweet sent and thought how lucky she was to have a wife that loved her so much and really cared for her. They would be starting a family. Things just couldnt get any better. Her thoughts were interrupted by Bettes cell phone ringing.
Bette: Do you mind if I pick it up?
Tina: No, not at all. Go ahead.
Bette answered the phone and was surprised when she heard the voice of a woman she hadnt heard in such a long time.
Bette: Jessica? How are you? Its been such a long time since I saw you! How are you?
Tina suddenly got interested in Bettes phone conversation when she heard Bette mention a name she hadnt heard before. Who could this woman be?
Bette: Yes, Im fineReally? Thats terrible! Off course Id love to help but its been such a long timeThings have changed since thenCant someone else do it?I seeOkay Ill have to talk to my wife about itYes, Im married. Who would have thought?Yes I know you certainly didn’t!Ill call you back to let you know if I can make it Jess. Okay, talk to you later. Bye.
Bette put her cell phone back down and sat back down on the couch next to Tina. She stopped the movie and took Tinas hand in hers.
Bette: We have to talk baby.
Tina: Who was that on the phone?
Bette: Jessica. She was my group leader when I volunteered at Greenpeace.
Tina: What did she say?
Bette: Theyre planning a mission at Greenpeace to save baby seals.
Tina: Thats great! I hate it that those poor little seals get killed!
Bette: They are going to the North Pole for six weeks to stop the killing.
Tina: Wont it be dangerous for them?
Bette: Yeah. The thing is that they dont have enough people to go with them.
Tina feared the words that would come out of Bettes mouth and unfortunately her fear was realized.
Bette: They asked me to come with them.
