    Plans for the Day

    You gonna let me see it? Alice asked pouring herself a fresh cup of coffee. They had opted to avoid the Planet this particular morning, just in case Carmen decided to drop by and Shane had brewed one amazing pot of coffee. Shane had arrived the afternoon before, making sure everything was in place for her birthday party. Carmen had thought that Alice was planning her entire birthday party, as Alice had opened her own party planning business 4 years previous after her career as a radio show host had failed. In fact, Shane had been involved with the entire process as much as time constraints would allow; having picked the guest list, the venue, and the band that would play. Alice wondered when Shane slept because it seemed that when she wasnt in a meeting or looking at spaces, Shane was trying to make Carmens 25th birthday her best yet. Alice had never thought that Shane would be so in love. When it came to Carmen, Shane would move heaven and hell if it would just make Carmen smile.

    No, I really want Carmen to be the first to see it. Shane said grinning.

    After five years of dating, including their rocky on and off stage during the first two years, where Shane had to learn that when Carmen said she wanted Shane to be monogamous, she didnt mean that she would allow Shane to slip-up every once in a while, she meant that hers was the only body that Shane paid any considerable amount of attention to. In addition to Shanes issues, Carmen had to come out to her family, and they both had to adjust to success in their trades. Shane had rebounded well from the failure of her first venture of her own hair salon, with the help of Carmen, who had been, and still was, a constant encouragement. Having established herself as a DJ and getting work at top parties, Carmen had parlayed her success into a career in production; her first album being Kit Porters first album in 10 years, which turned out to be a huge success. Now, Carmen was working with artists of all kinds, from rap and R&B acts, to pop and rock bands. Their financial stability insured, Shane had still not taken their relationship to the next-level, yet with all things involving Shane, Carmen waited patiently.

    Alice, noticing that Shane had gone into a daze, decided that her friend had spent enough time thinking, and said, So what all do you have to do today? Alice asked

    Lets see, Ive got to swing by Dior and pick up my suit for tonight, and Carmens dress, get the ring cleaned to make sure it looks amazing tonight, and then Ill meet you at the Planet at 3:30 to make sure everything is perfect. Shane said looking tense

    Have you talked with her mom yet? Alice asked

    Oh yeah, no; forgot about that. Im going by there at 10. Glancing at her Rolex, a present from Carmen for her 29th birthday, Shane muttered a profanity, and got out of her chair, I really need to get going; its already 9.
