    Chapter 9

    When they finally parted Thursday evening, they planned to speak on the phone over lunch the next day. There wasn’t time to meet if they hoped to leave work at a reasonable hour, so an extended lunch break was forgone in favor of conversation from afar.
    "You mentioned you had an important meeting this morning – how did it go?" Bette asked.
    "It was fantastic. A major peer reviewed journal accepted one of my team’s papers for publication," Tina replied.  "I shared the news at the meeting, and we were able to finish addressing the questions of the reviewers before returning it for final approval."
    "Good news, and productive," Bette said. "The perfect combination."
    "An acceptance of this magnitude will make it very difficult to deny my application for tenure," Tina enthused. "I’m so relieved. The timing couldn’t be better."
    "Then we have something to celebrate tonight," Bette was thrilled to hear Tina’s news. Over the last few days, she had confided vague concerns about a pending decision. This was clearly the decision she was waiting on. "I mean, other than what we’re already celebrating."
    "This has been one of the most amazing weeks of my entire life," Tina said. "And as great as this  is, it doesn’t even top the list of what I have to be happy about."
    "Well, I haven’t had any unusual professional accomplishments this week, but I have recently become reacquainted with someone pretty special," Bette said. "And that’s what I’m focusing on."
    "Funny that…me too." 
    "Were you planning on going into work on Saturday?" Bette asked. 
    "I have a lecture to finish," Tina replied. "But I can do that anywhere."
    "Then what do you think about spending the weekend together?"
    "You’re taking a chance – inviting me for the whole weekend before you even know if I’m going to be worth it," Tina laughed.
    "Did you enjoy last night?"
    "You know I did," Tina replied, her countenance becoming decidedly more serious.
    "I’m here for seven more weekends," Bette said. "And that includes the one that starts today."
    "You make an excellent point," Tina replied. "I’ll pack for two days."
    "You don’t need to worry about packing anything to sleep in," Bette offered. "That should ease the burden of planning."

    13. Swimmie, so Bette’s in Toronto for only seven more weekends. Does that mean seven more chapters? Since they were doing the tasting menu did Tina order Fission chips? *palm face* How about that tattoo I suggested a little E=MC2, never hurt anyone, I mean…it’s relative…to the story…Great update.

    20. =) Can’t help but smile at how the ladies have been getting closer and closer. I love their conversations punctuated by kisses (or is it the other way around?) whenever they’re together. It’s been a treat watching their mutual attraction blossom in the last four chapters. Thanks a lot for this lovely story, jks! Reading this is a good tonic after watching the heart-rending episode 4 of “The walking Dead”. Anyway, can’t wait to read about their next interaction. Cheers! =)
