    Chapter 6

    "I’ll come by around 11:30?"
    "Great," Tina said. "We’ll beat the lunch rush if we get away a little early."
    "Are you taking the subway home?"
    "As always," Tina replied. "You too?"
    "We may as well walk together," Bette confirmed.
    They picked up their belongings and exited to the street for their respective trips home. There was a crispness in the air because of the time of year. And an air of expectation lingered between them as they walked, talking comfortably as if they had never been apart.
    Chapter 6
    Bette made her way down the hall of Tina’s office building and paused quietly at her open door. She noted that Tina was focused intently on her computer screen. Bette was thankful to have a fall coat on – the building was freezing. She knocked lightly on the door to announce her arrival.
    Tina rolled her chair back from the desk, simultaneously pushing her glasses up on top of her head in one seamless move as she smiled and made direct eye contact. The repositioning of the glasses was designed to bring Bette into sharper focus while taming strands of hair that had previously strayed from a prim and proper bun held in place with a Japanese inspired clip.
    "Hey, I’m almost done," Tina greeted her. "Just a few more minutes and I’ll be ready to go."
    "Sure, I’m a bit early," Bette replied. "It’s no warmer in your office than it is in the hall; don’t they heat this place?"
    "Not with any consistency until November 15," Tina replied. She referenced her outfit with a wave of her hand. "Hence the sweatshirt."
    Bette read Tina’s hooded sweatshirt once it had been brought to her attention. ‘Ask a Particle Physicist to Talk Nerdy to You’.
    "Is that one of your underutilized skills?" Bette grinned.
    "Oh yes…physicist humor," Tina replied, rolling her eyes. She brought her glasses back down purportedly to return her attention to her work. Wisps of blonde hair fell back down, framing her face. "The more of those jokes you hear, the clearer it becomes why we spend time either in an office, or with each other."
    "I’m always interested in experimenting with unique conversation," Bette shrugged, allowing Tina to infer whatever she chose to with that suggestion. She had become a bit more adept at flirting in the last 20 years. Bette pulled her smartphone from her bag to occupy the time it would take for Tina to finish.

    3. First off, Swimmie, I love your hopeful enthusiasm for US politics! Even more, I love your Tina in this story. And like Bette, I find her “nerdy” to be super sexy (massive blushing). I hope you’re not in a hurry with this story because it seems to me that there are still some fun themes to be “explored” here ;0)

I really liked that visual of Bette removing Tina’s glasses and unclipping her hair… it’s probably just as well Zack interrupted, I don’t think they’re quite ready for anything more, even though they’re not into “time-wasting” with their respective limited stays in Toronto. I suspect it won’t be long before they are, though. ;) As much as I’m loving this story, it still seems to get better with each chapter. Thanks, jks. :)

    16. When there’s kissing involved, especially between Bette and Tina, a door that automatically locks is good. Not good is when you lock yourself out and your belongings are inside and the only thing you have is your cell phone and you need to call someone to help you – not speaking from experience mind you. Like jp22 said, I like the visual of Bette removing Tina’s glass and hair clip. I like the mild teasing and flirting take place. It’s Tina’s turn…maybe using her thumb pad to wipe something off the corner of Bette’s mouth and bringing the thumb to her mouth…maybe something like that. What do you think? And oh, Tina’s glasses were tortoise shell, right? With three small gold colored dot-details on the outer lenses for a vintage look…
