Project Reunion
This scene picks up after Bette has walked out the door to catch a cab to the airport so she can go after Jodi in upstate New York.
After Bette closed the door, Tina sat there for a minute, pondering what had just happened–the first time she and Bette had kissed on the lips in more than two years! She realized that she had tried to prolong it, but awkwardly pulled away and immediately grabbed the side of her neck to mask her embarrassment about what had happened.
And then, Bette had said, ”Good luck to you, too.”
She was so dazed by the kiss that she didn’t know what Bette was talking about.
“With Kate.”
“Oh…yeah.”
Kate was cute, but she was a little too “oily” for Tina’s tastes—she tried to be slick, and it was a major turnoff. She had also confessed to Kate that it was because of her feelings for Bette that she had turned down Kate’s recent invitation to go home with her. Most of all, the problem was that Kate wasn’t Bette.
“Guilt makes you do a lot of stupid things!” Tina mused. “I’ve been bending over backwards to help Bette get Jodi back. I heard myself saying all the right things to be supportive, but there was always that voice screaming, ‘What—are you nuts? Tell her how you really feel!’ It’s like I’ve been handing Bette to Jodi on a silver platter, when I should be the one enjoying the meal!”
A verse from a song by Bread came to mind:
And it don’t matter to me
If your searching brings you back together with me
‘Cause there’ll always be
An empty room waiting for you
An open heart waiting for you
Time is on my side
‘Cause it don’t matter to me
“That isn’t totally accurate–time is on my side, our time together–but it does matter to me–I’ve got to stop her!” She looked at her watch and said, “Shit! I don’t have any time at all to do this!” Tina jumped up and got her cell phone from her purse. “Hey—I need a big favor from you!”
“Tina! What’s going on?” Shane inquired.

Really Great Post!!!!!! Thank you PPAS
They are so incredably cute together. This was a fun chapter to read. It helps a reader to believe in true love and second and maybe third chances.
Stealing a sign might be nice, but this was sooooo much better. Absolutely fantastic.
Great post……….I like the fact that Tina use most of her reasons to point out Jodie flaws………….Also it takes help from others to get that of what you lost. And the gang stood there and witness true love. Thanks Sweetie for this wonderful version.
“Alice and Papi, who danced behind Tina…” plus Alice with the doves – hysterical! Thanks for writing it!
That was wonderful and loving it!
