Planet Terror: Bring Me Back to Life

    This time tomorrow,

    Where will we be…

    On a spaceship somewhere

    Sailing across an empty sea..

Alice was listening to music.  It seemed the only thing that would calm her when she got agitated.  Shane played the stereo for her.

    This time tomorrow

    What will we know?

I leave the sun behind me

And I watch the clouds as they sadly pass me by…

Shane nodded along to the music, watching the waves crash against the shore not far from where they sat.  She was sad that they’d lost Aikane and all the others.  The Hawaiian resistance was an inspiration in this fight against infection.

In her lab, Bette was looking at a sample of her own blood.  The DC-3 virus seemed to have altered her cells, that much she had figured out, but it also seemed to be staving off the degenerative effects of DC-2.  Then again, she had been immune to DC-2 from the beginning—it was an air born virus, and all survivors were immune to it, given the very fact of their survival.  So, she had to ask: why them, and no one else? And how did DC-3 figure into it all? She had also, unfortunately, found another derivative of the original virus, meant to infect animals as well as humans. Cross species contamination added an annoying twist.  This virus had been the one to infect Alice, and now she would have to figure out the difference in its properties as well.

Leaning back on her chair, Bette rubbed her temples and closed her eyes. The missing pieces seemed too numerous, and the variables alone were too ominous to face.  Every missing piece of information fed into an exponential number of possibilities, so she had to remove each variable one by one.  Her eyes flew open as she remembered Helena’s math lesson one day.  They had gone for a walk one morning, and ended up bickering over something.  The former go-go dancer was, strangely enough, a bit of a mathematical genius.  She explained a bit about fractals to Bette, in order to communicate some of her difficulties with the ways their minds worked together.

“Embrace the complexities.” Helena had told her. “Stop trying to remove complication…”

    1. Damn Helebette, this is SO far out there, but so different and unusual that I’m actually really getting into this! Quite a creative imagination you have there lady. Bring on MORE eh?

    2. I hope Bette’s cure works so she can reunite with her fractal-loving partner and join Peggy in a round (or two) of martinis. If they observe anything passing by like a strange dream, I suspect it will be not the end of the world but Jenny in her bloody raft.

    3. I have to say that when I first heard the Kinks sing Lola when I was a kid, it was truly eye and mind opening. Up until then guys in drag had solely (at least as anybody was willing too admit) been comedic. It truly was the first time I’d heard of transvestism and the song was at least as revolutionary in that respect as Kit wanting to blow up banks. It’s also a great song. And my brothers and I loved it all the more as we had a Great Aunt Lola who was pretty much the antithesis of the songs hero/ine. So, Alice has avian zombie cooties. I like your Alice so I hope Bette’s solution works, our band of survivors has become quite small (still not a good reason to have Jenny come drifting back anytime soon, unless of course we can use her for a punching bag). I don’t know if I really am up for embracing the complexities, call me simple minded, but sometimes they can’t be ignored. And one solution per situation does not hold.

    4. I’m feeling a bit better now, maybe it’s Helena’s blitheness about the whole fighting their way ashore thing… Does that boat come equipped with chain guns and missiles or something? Or has she figured out she’s The One and everything’s gonna go all bullet-time and she’ll kill off everything in a blur before the first zombie takes a shambling step towards her? Or is her mother’s instinct telling her something…? Is Superbaby Caoimhe gonna do some weird mind-pulse thing and make all the zombies’ heads explode? Hum… Anyway, I hope Bette’s idea works for Alice. They really haven’t got anything to lose… although, Bionic Alice might be a nightmare in itself… I’m not gonna fret though, cos Bette (for once) is wrong, there’s never just one solution… More soon, hb!

    5. Hello helebette, I love how you have the core family of characters acting like a family, Alice and Shane are so close in all incarnations of “The L Word” and the way you have them here is just perfect. The decisions that Bette has to make to ensure that the survivors are protected must be taxing on ones soul, good thing she has some wonderful people to keep her up, especially Helena and Caiohme. You are rocking this out of the park, Sincerely, JC

    6. Great update! You know if Bette doesn’t what too stick Alice I will. Helena and family need some renforcement so let’s take a chance and see what happens. And Jenny really do have some issues.
