    chapter 6

     

    New England – about two weeks later

    They had done everything in a month. They had walked on the beach, fished, shopped and swam in Barbara’s indoor pool. Seen much of New England on day trips. Eaten well. They had talked like college girls who had discovered that there was actually someone else with your interest who was ready to talk for hours.

    They had both spent several hours a day working. They compared notes, encouraged each other, had good suggestions.

    The sex was mind-boggling. These two alpha women seemed to know exactly how alpha women should connect. They alternatively were aggressive, powerful, passive, vulnerable. There was a power which didn’t surprise them and a tenderness that surprised them both.

    When they went to sleep, they liked to be touching in an intimate way. Sometimes Bette buried her face into Barbara’s breasts. Barbara liked to spoon Bette so that her hand remained gently on the warmth of Bette’s pubic area.

    It was a time of discovery as are the beginning of all relationships. But the thing that surprised each of them was the vastness and richness of the other. Each was a woman of many facets, many interests and openness to new things. Neither had known another person of this complexity and interest. Neither expected the other to show such sweetness and gentleness.

    New England – the last night

    “There’s nothing like the ocean,” Bette said while sipping the coffee. “The New England coast is different from California, but wonderful and protective.”

    She looked into the fireplace with the crackling logs. Then rose and walked to the beautiful doors to the patio which provided a dramatic view of the Atlantic. They had walked along the shore earlier in the evening and had dabbled their hands in the cool water. Barbara had taken Bette’s hand and gently kissed the palm dry. It tasted of salt and Bette and Bette was very moved.

    “I could stay here forever,” Bette mused.

    She looked back at the chairs in front of the fire and saw Barbara watching her.

    Barbara relaxed in the chair, not approaching Bette, but giving her space.

    “You’re an easterner,” she said. “You grew up in Philadelphia and went to school in Connecticut.”

    1. Dag Pancha…I clicked on the page and immediately was hit in the chest. “Tibetters…this is not a Tibette story”….sigh…I guess we can’t have EVERYTHING…it’s a well written story so I will continue to read it. Keep posting.

    2. I am a huge TiBetter but this pairing is absolutely wonderful b/c of the way you are spinning your tale. Bette and Barbara are great together. They just complement each other in many ways. Even alphas need to be taken care of.

    3. Yeah, sounds like its way more than great sex. I mean, they’re trading sweaters and all. Its a grand and rare thing to find someone with whom one can truly connect, rarer still for the complex and multi-faceted among us. Glad they’ve recognized it in each other. And have the means to keep it going despite the distance. And as usual, Shane has it all figured out.

    5. The trading of sweaters was sweet. Yes it was a bit high schoolish and should be corny but it wasn’t. So people still think this will be a TiBette story? O.o I thought your author notes on the first chapter was pretty clear in that this is NOT a TiBette story.

Your writing is so incredibly good, that I am pulled into the story with the first sentence, and always read the last word with surprise and disappointment that it was ending already. Thank you for this story. You know how I love Bette and Tina…but, in reality, I just want to read a good love story. And, I have no doubt that is what you are giving us. Thanks!

    7. Thanks for clearing up the sweater thing. I was thinking that the Senator only looked good to Bette in green! This is very delicately written. You are making us believe that Babette may have legs.

    9. I don’t like the idea of Bette without Tina but it’s your story. I must admit the senator is a better choice due to your outstanding abilities. They are so inspired and content.
