    Chapter  12

The next 2 days passed quickly.  Tina rested, ate and spent time with Alice, Kit and Shane.  Alice and Shane went back to work and Alice, Kit and Shane took turns spending time with Tina.

Shane had just relieved Kit, and She and Tina were sitting on the couch sharing a pizza.  They were having a casual conversation when Tina turned to look at Shane and with a serious expression, quietly spoke.

“Shane, can I ask you a favor?”

    “Of course Tina, what’s up?”

    Tina sighed.

“Shane, Kit has offered to take me to an AA meeting…but um, I think this is something I should do on my own…you no…like anonymously…I was wondering if maybe, would you take me…and maybe wait outside.  .There’s one this evening not far from here…What do you think?”

    Shane smiled at Tina.

“I think it sounds like a plan.  I’ve been to meetings…and I can tell you…I have never gone with someone I know, but I have gone with friends so if you decide you need me inside I’ll be there.  I’ll wait outside so you can stay as long as want and if you need me in there, I’ll be there.  What time is the meeting?”

Tina smiled at her wise friend.

“Thanks for understanding Shane.  It’s at 6:30.”

“Great, that’ll give you time for a nap.”

“Good idea, something tells me I might need one.”

Several hours later Tina walked slowly out of the doors of the Y and gave her friend a weak smile.

    “How’d it go?”

“Pretty good…well, better than before…it feels good to know I’m moving forward and that I’m not alone you know…but man it’s a long road…ya know…?”

Shane put her arm around her friend as she led her to the car.

    “Yeah Tina, I know.”

Tina looked at her friend and gave her a weak smile.

“Shane…I did get up though, really briefly…but at least I said ‘it’, ya know?”

Shane pulled her friend into a warm embrace.

    “Tina that’s amazing…Fucking amazing.”

Tina cried into her friends shoulder.  Maybe there was even a happy tear or two, mixed in there somewhere.

The next morning Alice took Tina to an appointment with the physical therapist to work on strengthening her leg.  The appointment was tiring, but the therapist reassured Tina that her leg would be as good as new in the next month or so.  She left the appointment feeling lighter then she’d felt in a long time.  She and Alice were in the car and Tina turned to Alice and spoke.

    1. Your characterisation is so good… you can really hear Bette – strong in her explanation but vulnerable when waiting for Tina’s response; desperately hoping for understanding – kinda reminds of the scene in Joyce’s office ‘…do you still love me?..’ Great update, can’t wait to read more!

    2. Oh wow…i’ve been waiting for this chapter….:D thanks! little steps…glad Bette is being so patient. Tina has a great support system…thanks for posting!

    3. Oh wow, been waiting for them to have a conversation of some kind. That was very open and honest, just what they needed. And as Bette said, would it matter if she were battered and bruised, would it matter to Tina. Of course not. Maybe a meeting between them is closer than we think. I do hope they can get it together and have some kind of friendship to start with. They really do need each other desperately. Thanks for posting. PPS

    4. Well, Tina was able to get that question off her chest. That is a huge step. It sounds like they both really want to have some kind of relationship in time. I hope Tina agrees to see Bette. I think that would bring them closer together.

    5. For sure we readers will stay tuned!! My heartis sinking for them and on the other hand breaking. They need each other, they live for each other and it would be thi way the the eternity. They are getting somewhere bit by bit. I am so happy they are progressing positively towards each iother with care, patient, forgiveness and love. I would like some more and more please!!! Never have enough of this. Thank you. PPVS

    6. Wow you’re connection with the two of them when they talk is palpable. Bette’s description of how she couldn’t stand the thought of Candace touching her hit home for me. Great chapter thanks for bringing it

    7. Hi D&A, That was gut-wrenching as Bette and Tina eventually talked. There is a lot of hurt in the past and present for them to work through.Happily this has started from a seingle phone call.I want to have them sort their shared past out and gain closure then they can work together for a shared future. Can’t wait to read more. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
