Pause The Tragic Ending – Chapter Two

Bette lay very still in her bed. There was a strange sound but she couldn’t quite figure out what it was. Right now all she could think about was how dry her mouth was. In fact, she was pretty sure that her tongue was going to be permanently stuck to the roof of her mouth. She reached out a hand to where she thought a glass of water might be. Then she remembered, there had been no time for such thoughtful preparation last night. She had been far too interested in removing someone else’s clothes, and her own for that matter.

The memories started to become clearer in Bette’s muddled mind. There was the tequila, which Alice had insisted that they drank, then there was the dancing, and then there was the tall blonde who flirted, then touched, then got closer and closer to Bette until she was powerless to resist. Bette turned over suddenly, if there was a tall blonde in her bed last night where was she right now?

Bette regretted moving so quickly. Her head pounded and her stomach churned. Alice should pay for this. Bette hadn’t even wanted to go out last night. It had been a hard week at the gallery and Bette had just wanted to rest. She reached out her hand to the other side of the bed, it was still warm and yet there was nobody there. Could it be possible that someone could just walk out on Bette Porter. Bette shut her eyes and took a deep breath in. How had it come to this? Her break up with Alice had been painful and now she was trying to heal that wound with random women who she picked up at The Planet.

Talking of Alice, Bette wondered what had happened to her. Bette hated this part of the morning, trying to piece the events of the previous evening together through the post alcoholic haze. She remembered dancing with the blonde, whose name she was almost certain was Natalie, then seeing Alice talking to Kit. There had been kissing, that much Bette really could remember. A soft tongue exploring pliable lips. Somewhere, in the deep recesses of Bette’s mind she knew that she was too old for all of this. The public displays of affection with women who she barely knew, the taking them home for the night. Shouldn’t she be settled down by now?

    1. I wonder if Natalie/Natasha was actually Tina and the Planet was just so damn loud and everyone was so damn drunk that nothing was heard correctly.

    2. The setup so far is very interesting. Bette’s still sounding wistful over her breakup with Alice, and now seems to looking for something better… maybe she’ll find it at the Planet. Thanks for the chapter, cg. Post when you can. Cheers

    3. I’m glad that you’re showing that Bette has a human side, rather than being WeHo’s version of ‘The Hunger’, an ageless, fleckless beauty who knows all women and knows no shame. Bette reflecting painfully on her single life is priceless. Thanks!

    4. A new story from an excellent writer – I can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Always love the Shane/Tina friendship, too. Thank you, Citygirl.

    5. is the mysterious woman Tina by any chance? For her night out with Shane she changed her name lol. uuummmm may behey. anyway can’t wait for their meeting hehehe PPVS
