Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 28, Part 1
“Well, I guess it’s enough for now,” Bette finally said, laughing at Tina’s shocked face.
“My, my…aren’t you a little picky, Ms. Porter,” Tina said mockingly.
“Why, Ms. Kennard,” Bette replied in the same tone, “I believe you are jealous of the competition.”
“What makes you think I want to compete?” Tina asked innocently.
“You’re not? Are you suggesting that I’m not worth fighting for?” Bette asked seriously, not knowing if they were still playing around.
“Of course not, Bette,” Tina laughed but then added seriously, as well, “I’m just saying that there will be no competition because everything you are looking for is right in front of you.”
“You are very confident, Tina. How can you be sure that you are what I’m looking for?” Bette asked teasingly, putting her drink on the bedside table.
“Let me see,” Tina said pensively, “Intelligent…check, cute…check, funny, charming…check, check…I’m exactly what you want.”
“See, Tee, I knew you were begging for a compliment,” Bette laughed lightheartedly.
“Well, what’s the problem? Compliment me,” Tina said half serious, trying to make Bette open up about her feelings.
“Okay,” Bette accepted Tina’s little challenge, “I think you are beautiful, smart, very funny, full of surprises and absolutely…addicting.”
“What are you trying to say?” Tina asked, blushing uncontrollably.
“I’m just saying that you are perfect, Tee,” Bette answered, smiling.
“I love the way you call me Tee,” Tina smiled lovingly in return, “Every time you say it, I get so turned on.”
“Turned on? What, like a light bulb?” Bette asked, frowning.
“Yes, exactly, only it’s like the light bulb is inside of me,” Tina answered, not sure if Bette can understand the analogy.
“Do you think I’ll ever be able to learn, understand and remember all these new words and slang vocabulary of the lesbian world, like turned on, carpet muncher, or bush confidence? I like to visualize things. So when I hear carper muncher I actually imagine a person munching on a green carpet and it sort of looks revolting to me,” Bette said jokingly.
“In time I’m sure you will,” Tina answered. “For now just follow your heart and your instincts. Like now for example, what is your heart telling you?”

I continue to love your Bette–her honest emotions, her deep connection to the people and the world she left behind, her vulnerability and fragility, all accompanied by strength and bravery and openness to the new wold in which she has landed. I always eagerly await your next chapter, excited to see where we are going next.
Well, in one sense Bette does have Katie to herself all over again. It is interesting how well that Bette and Tina get along. They do make a perfect couple.
