Nothing Like You and I (Chapter 3): For You To Notice
Hey you! The red head greeted Dana warmly as she walked into the Planet, a few minutes early before her duties as head chef were to begin. Noticing Danas downcast face, Lara inquired, Is everything all right? She touched Danas toned arms softly, in a gesture of kindness.
Yeah. Dana replied flatly.
Dana, youre not gonna convince anyone with that expression and tone, tell me whats going on?
I, its just, Alice
The chefs blue eyes narrowed, did she do something to hurt you? Lara still cared deeply for the tennis player and she didnt make any pretense otherwise. She respected Danas wish to be just friends but that didnt mean she had to be happy about losing her to Alice. Lara didnt have anything personal against Alice, but it was her place next to Dana that the chef resented.
No. Dana replied defensively, sensing Laras thinly veiled anger rising. Its just, were on a break and its stupid. Im stupid. I dont need to be thinking about it so much.
Hey, dont say that, youre not stupid Dana. Lara spoke softly, lifting Danas chin so their eyes met, in an intimate and familiar gesture that she did often when they had been dating. Her eyes sparkling as she suggested, Ive got to head into the kitchen soon, but lets get together later and get your mind off of this, I wont take no for an answer, Ill call you before I get off work, and dont eat before! With that, Lara, smiled affectionately and made her way into the kitchen.
Dana was wracked with guilt. First, for telling Lara so much about what was going on with Alice, knowing that the chef still had feelings for her. But then Dana realized her guilt also stemmed from her relief that she and Alice were on a break and that she wasnt feeling guilty about the slight nervous anticipation she was feeling in her stomach at the thought of going out with Lara again.
They met up for a late dinner that night at a Moroccan restaurant Lara had been meaning to try for months. Conversation came so easy for them as it had always been, causing Dana to reminisce in the back of her mind about the evening she showed up at Laras door for the first time, the sun was low in the sky, the nervous anticipation in her stomach, her breath catching in her throat when the red head stepped out in the summer dress that hugged her in all the right places, the soft kiss Lara placed on her lips to reassure her. Maybe it was the wine, maybe it was the spices, but Dana felt freer than she had in a long time. Looking across the table at Lara, who spoke with such obvious gentle affection, Dana was transported back to the memory of how free from her current cares and burdens she was then. Coming out of the closet and her newfound fame, Dana traded one set of burdens for another. The loneliness and frustration of being in the closet had been traded in for two back to back public whirlwind romances that threatened to drown her on more than one occasion.

great update – im not liking that i actually enjoy hellacious…whew – get i better get used to it. love your style.
Great writing. Definitely helping to ease the spoiler blues!
It’s nice to see how you’ve written Helena and her actual genuine kindness in caring for Alice after the break-up with Dana. I was a fan of Dana and Lara when they were together, as well as a fan of Dana and Alice, so I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure out which pairing seems more appropriate for themselves as well as each other; but your using Helena (as hinted at by the spoilers) as someone to be there for Alice is not just believable, it’s wonderfully written. Great job, and please post more as soon as you can!
And now that I’ve rambled on, I’ll be ending this…. now. :)
im enjoying this one very much, can’t wait for the next post

I love your stories. Specially Helena’s and Alice’s parts. Please post as soon as you can!
Good stuff! I’m glad that you showed a little more of Dana’s perspective, it is always nice to get that in fan fics, especially because sometimes I think she is one of the harder charcters to write. Love the way you are writing Helena as well, you have a great grasp on these characters as well as the more subtle intimate gestures. Keep up the good work!
loving your story
