Not Just an Addiction – Chapter 7
***
Later that night, Alice threw herself onto her bed and stared at her ceiling, putting one hand on her forehead in annoyance. She knew she wouldn’t be getting much sleep, given the events of the barbeque and the impending conversation with Lara tomorrow.
After Kit had interrupted their embrace in the pool, the gang had joined them for a swim, and they had spent the rest of the evening in separate conversations with their friends. While Alice enjoyed the party, she spent much of her time being preoccupied by her need to be near Lara. Alice wished that she and Lara had had a chance to finish what they had begun, but she knew that having sex in Bette and Tina’s pool while everyone sat just inside the house wasn’t their best-laid plan.
Over the course of the rest of the night, when no one else was looking, Alice and Lara would trade looks across the pool that reflected not only their desire for each other, but also their uncertainty about how to pick up where they had left off. Although there was no question that they wanted each other, they knew they needed to discuss things between them before one or both of them got hurt.
That was why, at the end of the night, they had parted ways at the door of Bette and Tina’s house, rather than spending the night together. Making that decision had taken all the willpower Alice had, but she knew it was probably for the best.
Of course, she was paying for that decision now as she stared wide awake at her ceiling, her body still humming with unfulfilled anticipation. She had no words to describe the way Lara made her feel every time she came near. It was like her world turned upside down and right-side up all at once. It was the most incredible feeling, and also the most terrifying. And Alice knew she had to find some way to explain it to herself before she could discuss it openly with Lara.
She laughed ruefully at the ceiling. How was she supposed to talk about her feelings when she didn’t have the first clue how to verbalise them to herself? They had taken her by surprise, and had even survived her repeated attempts to stifle them over the past few weeks. These feelings were not only resilient, they were also disobedient: they refused to go away when she wanted them to. They demanded to be let out, communicated in some way. Maybe that was why Alice always felt the need to be physically near Lara – because they had never had the chance to verbalise their feelings, all their pent-up emotions were being channelled into their physical interactions.

ah, there you are again! Great update. I think the thing I like most about your writing is how you take the characters we know and flesh them out, in the context we know from the show. Without having any external angst, you manage to move the characters along nicely, which is a nice alternative to the standard fare! Again, your dialogue, pace and tension are spot on. Thanks for continuing the story….as you surely know by now, I’ll be reading as long as you post!
Happy dance! Love the update because I must admit I’ve been checking. As always, your pacing and tension (gawd! but it’s so well done!) and truth to the characters as we know them makes for excellent reading. Of course, I am looking forward to ‘the talk’ and hope nothing interrupts them–but if it did you’d be handling it in a realistic way so carry on with how your creativity is taking you. When is Showtime hiring you as Chief Lace Storyline Specialist?
yay, awesome job yet again and i agree with Min, they should hands down hire you to write all of the Lace action! :)You capture their characters down to the spot!
I have been waiting for this for ages… and I guess I’ll accept some of the blame if you put another chapter up quickly! Haha I wont write anymore fics so you dont get distracted :P I’m seriously hooked.
As usual, I love it. The tension makes me want to take a spatula to my eye, but other than that I’m doing just fine. That was my favorite chapter yet! Keep up the awesome work. No pressure ;)
Okay, I haven’t read this, but who the hell gave it a 1 star? =/
yay i am firsti like the story so far really good read
Great update! I can’t wait till the talk with Alice!
cool I can’t wait to see what happens next with them please post soon I love it
I just read all 7 chapters! I really like the way you describe the feelings from Lara’s and Alice’s perspective. It’s very well written! Btw, you’re a real tease…every time they get close, someone interrupts (very very frustrating ;) ).
