Kit looked, looked again and said:

She gave him a big hug and started to tickle him. Junior started to laugh and asked Kit to quit. But Kit hugged him and kissed him and finally she turned him around and looked at him with nothing but love in her eyes.

“Look at you. I haven’t been around and you grew another inch. Boy don’t grow so fast! Where’s your father?”

“I’m here sweety. Goodmorning my love.”

Sonny kissed his wife goodmorning and kissed his boy on top of his head.

“We brought you breakfast.”

Sonny placed the plate on the bed. There was enough food to feed the three of them and more. All three sat on the bed and picked what they wanted from the plate. Junior picked something and before he would eat, he would always give his mother a bite. Then he would eat himself and the next peace he’d share with his father. Sonny and Kit liked this part of him. He saw Sonny feeding Kit like that once and he took it over.

When they were finished with breakfast, Junior went to the other room to play.

“We have to start packing, if we want to go to that Joint,” Kit said.

“Kit, baby, I’m afraid there’s a change of plans. You need to go to New York.”

“New York? How come, I have nothing scedualed. Jerry said my agenda was blocked for these coming days.”

“It is and maybe it will be even longer.”

Kit looked at Sonny and saw a troubled look in his eyes. She asked him what was wrong.

“Jerry got a phonecall from a nursing home. It’s your father, Kit. He’s dying. He wants to see you and Bette. I think it’s important you go and see him first.”

Kit’s face turned pale. Her father dying, asking for her and Bette? No, Sonny was wrong. That was not her father. Not the man who killed her mother and stepmother and kicked her baby sister out of the house. And now she was on the brink of finding her, he wanted to see them both?
