    Milestones, ch.3

Jake heard the elevator doors open and what, or rather who he saw made his eyes widen in shock. Sharon noticed the look on Jake’s face.

"Jake, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost." Sharon took Jake’s hand and gently squeezed it, now starting to worry as several seconds had passed and he still hadn’t said anything. Finally Jake took a breath and spoke.

"Sharon, I think I was wrong about the elevator thing, unless our daughter ends up having a thing for math teachers, because that was Miss Deshuk who just walked through the doors."

"Miss Deshuk?" Sharon asked and squinted while looking in the same direction as Jake. "You mean Miss Deshuk the hardass calculus teacher you had such a crush on?"

"What?" Jake asked as he whipped his head around to look as his snickering wife. "I did not have a crush on her!"

"Oh bullcrap!" Sharon challenged. "You used to ask her for one-on-one help all the time and you were one of the smartest students when it came to math!"

Defeated, Jake looked down and said in a small voice, "Okay, so I had a teeny little crush on her. It was her sultry chuckle that sucked me in. Can you blame me?"

"Awww you’re so cute," Sharon laughed and kissed Jake on the nose.

"Well, we can rule Miss Deshuk out as she’s a little too old for our girl," Jake said and kissed Christina’s stomach which made her giggle. "But technically she wasn’t the first one off the elevator. That little baby girl in the stroller with her was first." Jake looked as if the gears were turning in his head and he was planning some sort of matchmaking scheme.

Sharon poked Jake in the side where he was very ticklish and said, "Honey, how do you even know our daughter will swing that way? She probably doesn’t even yet know that her mommy is a woman and her daddy is a man. Unless you have some kind of baby gaydar that I never knew about."

Jake looked Sharon right in the eyes and in mock seriousness said, "Sharon, I don’t know if you realize it, but we live in Los Angeles, California. Nearly everyone and their dog here is a little bit gay."

    1. Please, meaner things have happened than people depriving me of TiBette… oh wait… no, meaner things HAVEN’T happened… I just don’t know if I trust you yet… hm, guess we’ll see, Tibette Nazi. Ok, real comment. BABY GAYDAR! YES! I knew it existed! I knew at birth someone said of me, “Aw, cute. Baby dyke!” >D Great. I think it’s, in a strange way, HILARIOUS that B & T already connect. Love it. Now THAT’S love at first sight. Adoring it so far. Hope to see more of you soon!

    2. You know I do not care how long the chapter is. I really like how you set up their meeting and the ground work for their friendship down the road. They already hold one anothers eyes when they are around each other. Besides that pet rock is waiting to be placed into Tina’s hand and Bette will be there to comfort her when it is lost to the sea.

    3. I was very glad this morning when I discovered another chapter here. This story reads like a fairytale, and you know what, I just love fairytales. Your description of the first meeting between B & T just stole my heart. It was as if I was a silent spectator who could see it with my own eyes. You sure are a great writer. This time I fell in love with the Sharon character and I’m now totally convinced that Jake isn’t gay at all ;). Great, the’re gonna live next door, I can feel it comin’ already. Thanks for this really good chapter.

    4. You have a sweetness to this story that is a nice balance. I love the way Jake and Sharon are just plan corny with each other. You can feel thier love. Nice Bette knew her heart at an early age.

    5. Aww…my…God!!! (To quote Janice)… Who would have suspected that our favorite Lamentamini could be so sweet and talented in giving us ‘Love at first sight’ (in its first and true meaning) between our girls! The whole unfolding scene was so amazing, Lament! I was going ‘Awww” and “Sweeeeet” all along the chapter! Sooo well done, I really mean it! There were so many things in this chapter: Hints about J&S’s personalities, hints about a potential growing up together for B&T, hints that the beautiful love story between J&S might reproduce for their daughter, the amazing openness of J&S towards whatever the future will bring to their baby girl, etc… I think that chappy was not only well done, but also quite essential to the rest of the story! Can’t wait to see them grow up together. And yes, reminds me of a certain fairytale… but I don’t mean like a copycat at all, but in the general spirit of the story, and I looooove it! Thanks a lot and come back to us soon!

    6. I love this story and wait for the next chapter eagerly no matter how long it is. this is so sweet it puts a smile on my face as i go to work and that is a major achievement believe me.

    7. Lami! First time I’ve had to actually comment, I really love this fic, it’s so sweet and your writing is so smooth..very nice. I like all of the developments…don’t get frustrated with the length of chapter believe me I know stand it. Basically you have about 4 typed up pages in word and it comes out as two here! It’s all good…Take your time with posting too, as you can see I’m still working on Bette’s coming out story and I haven’t posted on in going over 3 weeks that’s the longest I’ve ever gone without posting on that fic! So take your time so whatever we get is up to your standards…So on that note…PLease post more soon! LOL Just kidding…But I eagerly await your next post.

    8. that was so sweet. and as a reader, it is much better to read a good short chapter than a longer one filled with boring details….so don’t lament over the length of your chapters. I love how bette and tina are totally into one another as babies. this is a great start. also glad to see jake is so open to the notion that christina may be gay.

    9. Lament, that is so, so sweet! Your unique sense of humor shows up in here, too–and isn’t one of those Hauser St. addresses from “All in the Family?” where the Bunkers lived? I knew I was going to enjoy this story, and I know you won’t disappoint! Yeah, the length thing–I can relate, but dang, your comments and intro I think really are longer than the post! Well, whether it’s short or long, pps!

    10. That’s sooooo cute. Glad to see baby Bee and baby Tee get along so well. Initially I thought maybe baby Bee would smack baby Tee when she got close, haha. I’m so bad. :P

    11. Bette is so advanced for a baby of 6 mos. She can crawl and touch another’s cheek while balancing her weight on a blanket and say “T”. She’s headed for the most elite private schools culminating w/Yale. The storytelling is sweet and tender.

    12. You may be right about making a pause in your writing, I like what I’ve read so far but maybe you have so many ideas inside your head that you need to figure out what to write next. Loved baby Elizabeth and loved baby Christina’s cooes of joy and having them as neighbors will be even sweeter. And never saw the elavator scene coming, it seems that you don’t need time away yet. LOL

    13. I am really enjoying this story. Its differant and refreshing… and a long chapter. I do secretly hope that some of the drama that we got from IC will be avoided. How funny that Jake pegs his daughter as maybe bi or gay at 4 weeks. If only it were that easy.

    14. Lamentamini, That was completely adorable and cute. The images of baby Bette and Tina were gorgeous as these two souls united. A match made in heaven. The coincidence of Bette being the gal next door was beautifully handled. This is just so sweet a story. Please continue because regardless of your insecurities please believe me that it is wholly entertaining and enjoyable. It is a little treasure to relish and savor. Thank you for this light and big-hearted tale. Your Loyal Fan.
