    As some of you have asked what you could do, please see the following.

    I think I told you that Fran was a teacher. In fact she was an excellent teacher. In 1989 she was one of ten chosen by the University of Texas (Austin) for the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers. She also received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities and was one of the very few to pass the Texas Master Teachers’ Exam. Fran finished her career in education by teaching in a special International Baccalaureate program, something for which the students had to pass special tests and be interviewed in order to be accepted. She, Frances Deleon Till, asked that contributions be made to the IB Program at Lamar Academy Scholarship Fund, 1009 North 10th Street, McAllen, Texas 78501.

    I have been asked if we should make reference to the site when making donations. I would not make reference to it for a couple of reasons. Fran was a very private person for one thing. Also, I don’t think she was out at work owing to the nature of her work and the concern some parents might have reflexively, despite Fran’s fine character. So just express your admiration for her and make your donation.

     Additionally, I’ll pass along that Fran tried to support indigenous and migratory bird and butterfly species by installing plants in her garden that they liked and contributed to preserving habitat for them. And she either adopted or was adopted by numerous stray cats through the years.

    1. It doesn’t surprise me such a warm person was a teacher. I have a special place in my heart for them, as I was fortunate to have had one touch my life in a profound way when I was younger. I lost her to cancer, and witnessed her courageous battle.I will be certain to make a donation in memory of this wonderful woman. Hugs Hun.
