”Don’t by any means talk bad about President Obama, he’s an avid supporter and has met him on several occasions,” Kit said, climbing into the backseat.

”I actually voted for him,” Tina said softly.

”Just play it by ear, I’m more concerned about him and Tina.”

”Baby sis, don’t worry about it. He didn’t react too badly when you told him you were gay.”

”He reacted better than I thought, but he still wasn’t pleased. I’d never failed him, and he made it seem like I had disappointed him somewhat.”

”Bette you didn’t fail, this is who you are.”

”I know Kit, and I wouldn’t change if I could,” I said taking Tina’s hand in mine and kissing it.

We finally drove up to the resturant, and I got butterflies in my stomach. Tina’s grip tightened on my hand. We got out and the valet took my car and we walked inside. I immediately spotted my father to the right at a table by himself and we walked over.

”Elizabeth! Katherine! How wonderful to see you,” he said, standing and embracing us.

”Hello father, your trip went well,” Kit asked, kissing his cheek.

”Oh yes, not a hiccup to speak of. And who might this young lady be?”

”Oh, I’m sorry daddy, this is Tina Kennard, Tina my father, Melvin Porter.”

”Pleased to meet you Ms. Kennard,” he said shaking her head and motioning for us to sit, ”I’ve already ordered the wine, please talk to me; update me on your lives.”

We sat for a while talking about everything. He was pleased to know the schooling for my doctorate was going well, and that I had ventured out and started my own business. He was proud of Kit’s business as well, their relationship when she was young was rocky. But they both had grown closer since she had graduated with her Master’s a little over ten years ago.

Kit was ten years old when I was born. She is my half sister, my father had been with her mother for a couple years before he met my mother, Maxine. He was granted custody of her when her mother bailed. It took her a long time to realize her mother left her behind, and not her father leaving her mother. My mother tried to be a mother to Kit, but she wouldn’t have it. She hung out with the wrong crowd until an unexpected pregnancy snapped her out of her downward spiral just after her twenty-first birthday. Nine months later, David was born and her life changed for the better. She went to school and got her business degree, then got her Masters in finance.
