Meet Me In Montauk; #11
I turned around to see Tina sitting on the sofa, staring blankly into space with her arms folded across her chest and two pieces of paper lying strewn on the coffee table in front of her.
I cautiously moved towards her, “Hey babe,” I said, “You’re still up?”
She stood up and glared at me. My stomach churned more violently; something was wrong.
She kept her eyes on me, a frightening fire in her eyes. Her voice tethered with anger.
“Where the fuck have you been, Bette Porter?”
***
Bette
I stood, rooted to the ground, stunned for a moment by her harsh tone. I tried to smile a little to hide my obvious guilt, “I’ve been in Montauk,” I replied, “I told you…”
“Bette,” Tina said, slowly, “If you don’t even intend to be honest with me, we have absolutely nothing to talk about.”
“I’ve really been in Montauk,” I repeated.
“With who?”
“I…”
“I’m giving you this opportunity to tell me the truth, otherwise, I’m leaving.”
I looked at her and I knew that she knew something, but how could she have possibly found out? It would be a month before my credit card bill arrived, and I didn’t have access to my emails except from the office and on my phone. How did she…how could she…
“I was there with my colleague,” I replied cautiously.
Tina’s eyes were filled with an angry fire and I knew she was on the verge of exploding at me. In all the years of being together with her, I had never seen her this angry. She shook her head, frowning.
“Bette, are you cheating on me?”
My breath was caught in my throat, “What are you talking about?”
“I’m going to ask you again, be very careful about how you answer me. Are you cheating on me?”
“I’m not, babe,” I replied, taking a few steps towards her with my arms outstretched, “Why would I be…”
“Bette,” Tina said, her voice raised slightly, “You are such a liar.”
“T…”
“Don’t you dare say a fucking word to me,” she shouted, moving away from me.

Does Bette realise what she has lost? Its kind of got me thinking and i think you shouldnt give up without a fight. I know that new found desire brings someting to your ife which you crave but in the end love can be torn apart and you can end up al alone.Maybe both women should be alone until they have figured out there feelings, at least both their partners would know how they feel and they are not lying.Ok so Bette is alone now what will she do try to win Tina back and get over the lust for Helena or will she return to Montauk to find what she was looking for? Will Helena continue lying to Tasha after she is trying so hard to revive their relationship and keep working on them as a couple. The gift was nice, some real thought behind it. All those captured memories maybe is it what Helena needed to salvage her relationship with Tasha. Damn it euni i’m caught up in this…for personal beliefs i think im going to explode here tonight. Its something waiting to happen. Loved the update i just hope this gives me some answers with the next post hehe. So Montauk one month who will go who will stay?
Ok just to tell you Eun, whilst i was reading this my kitchen got flooded by my washing machine damn it. My floors soaked through and through i just hope it dries off eventually. So next time i shal have to read this when i dont put a wash on.
I’m staying with you to the end. I think Helena needs to come clean to Tasha, at least tell her she was under appreciated. That is love. Bette deserves all the tears and guilt. Not lets see some making up. ;-)
Euni HI, ok you asked for it, I think your Bette is a selfish brat. She want Tina, She wants Helena. She dose not know what she wants, she should have told Tina just what she did, say she was sorry and Tina was right about the time a part. Who the hell is she to put other peoples lives on hold
oh I was so not done and the computer took my comment. So what I think is Tina should go help herself to whatever makes her happy for the time being. Now that winey littl brat Helena should get her act together and give Tasha her due in the anniversity department. Maybe that is not the most honest thing but it is the kindest as far as I can guess right now. Selfish f’en brats. Bye Euni, Thank you for the chapter, I didn’t mean nothing to upset you. :( Md
Tina already does what makes her happy. What does she do to make Bette happy? By the same token, the anniversary gift from Tash was nice but that still doesn’t make her a responsible, mature partner. I am wondering if Helena loves her because ehe thinks she is supposed to, just like she can’t get mad at Tash. Those are artificial emotions, and maybe Helena wants to feel real ones.
Wow! I felt as though I was right there in the moment with each of them and feared hearing Tasha storm back in to ask Helena about something she saw in the laundry. Hmm…there is something with Helena and Tasha that is lingering in the background. I’m not sure if it is intentional, but it feels as though…for some reason…Helena feels obligated to love Tasha. I’m not sure…if she has kinda gotten lost…and is attempting to justify her straying thoughts…or if there is any truth to this…but flaws and all…Tasha or no one for that matter needs to be in a situation where someone is not completely with them…don’t completely love them…or who feels obligated to be with them. We are too uniquely beautiful for that! So either Helena really feels this way…or is creating that scenario in to support her thoughts…the question for her is which one is it? It is interesting that Tina’s response was as if her and Bette had indeed had fidelity as an issue prior…because she was relatively quick with packing up, lashing out and rolling out! The emotion was powerful but so much different than in the finale of S1…which was such a layering of emotion. In this one, it was almost as if…possibly they had been down the road…done some healing…but in the rat race of life…both had probably taken each other for granted at some point to advance their careers…not because they wanted to be away…but sometimes it just happens…and people do have to be conscious and considerate on both sides…in long term relationships…because the love is not less…but it can happen! Truly for Bette it is natural sometimes to feel lonely or taken for granted (as I’m sure Tina has felt, as well). But sometimes the feelings of dissatisfaction stem from an internal issue….otherwise the reason you are not happy is always someone else’s fault…your happiness is always in someone else’s hand…how can you give someone that much control over your happiness? The first thing she says is…”Because you….” eeeeee…wrong answer! I’m not saying that relationship issues are never actual…because they are…however, cheating is many times about the person doing the action…not necessarily where they (we) attempt to place the blame…. I tell you what though…your Tina packs a “punch”…never have we seen Tina physically “over power” Bette in this way! This is a hard one….I’m looking forward to wherever you take us!! Nicely done! PPS
Umm…ahhh…I just wanted to add: Indeed relationships are about partnership…so the benefit should be mutual…but the support, compassion, commitment love and culpability are utterly shared…give and take…send and return! Look at what a good story does…it has us ranting, raving and having a healthy discussion…(ok, long monologues (lol!)) about relationships! PPS
I’m really disappointed in Bette and Helena. Here’s hoping for an unhappy ending for both of them. (Never thought I would say that!)
Like I’ve said before they should both feel guilty. I don’t feel sorry for either Bette or Helena. I do think Bette is being somewhat selfish, come on she is not the only person to ever feel lonely..like Tina said she had to endure lonely nights as well, when Bette was promoted. Then there is Helena, who has a loving, caring, kind, and supportive spouse right in front of her in Tasha and instead of appreciating that she is going off to Montauk to “explore” whatever it is. Dang it euni, I have never commented so much or felt so passionate about a story…Damn you!!!LOL!!
OH my, Bette got busted and bigtime! Well honestly, both women did wrong cause they are in relationships, but this does happen in real life. There are times that you stay in a reationship cause of one being used to it, and its not the best one at all, sometimes you don’t want to be alone and you suffer being in a relationship with a person you nolonger love. I can only hope that these two women can find what thier heart wants and needs to fulfil them.
I am getting a sinking feeling here. I have to say that since this is an AU, we have no idea what Tina did or didn’t do when Bette got promoted, and don’t know now, since she could say anything while angry. I never said that it was all Tina and Tash’s fault that the relationships have gotten into trouble, but they have definitely acted in ways that arent being a good partner. I am so sick of screaming, hitting, how dare she hit Bette… Tina, who I am sure has not and does not think or care for one second how anything she does affects Bette, but will scream for a thousand years about how terribly everything Bette does wounds her. It’s always all about her, and the statemment ” I have done all I can” shows that all she can do is scream and hit and blame. I can guarantee she wouldn’t think for a second what role she has played in the realtionship troubles. I don’t think Bette would do this over just a few lonely nights, if there wasn’t alot more to it than that, but maybe she did, in which case she is a jerk and deserves what she gets, as hard as that is for me to write. As far as Helena goes, I want to think there is more to her than following a momentary extracurricular lust. so maybe this fic is just on the “Bette is a horrible person and must be forever punished” bandwagon that the show seems to be permanently on..but in any case, you write it very well.
This is sad. :( Sad, sad, sad. :(
Hello My Beautiful Dragonfly… well you know I am out and out Bette fan and yes I feel that she does deserve to be guilty… but I think that this time apart from Tina is a great thing… she can evaluate where she is in her life… I’m sorry to say it but that one scene with Tina is the most emotional and passionate she has been so far and well for me that makes her kind of hollow to me… where was this passion when she completely forgot about Bette’s plans for her, Bette was lined up ready to wine and dine on her and she was pretty empty to her… yes I know I know Tina was there for Bette blah blah blah… and Tina never strayed… blah blah blah… but Bette isn’t Tina and Bette made a mistake… and well yes Tina reacted in only away Tina does with a definite conclusion… so no matter what happens to Bette if she finds her way out of this… if she gets hurt… if she hurts herself I think Tina should be excluded from being any kind of concerning adult… yes Bette made a mistake and I’m sure it wasn’t her first and I’m sure it won’t be her last but in the end I truly believe Bette can do better… she needs better… as for Helena I would love for her to make things work with Tasha… I think she should come clean with Tasha will Tasha be hurt of course… but I think she is a more forgiving soul… yes Helena might have to sleep on the couch and maybe they would go to couples therapy and such but I think they can make it work… cause yes Helena betrayed Tasha by lying to her… but she was honest enough to stop… they both were and realize that they were going down a path of no return… and they stopped and they left it well enough alone… I fear for Bette… she is the most fragile when it comes to her emotions then many of the others… well my beautiful Cuzzie you completely amaze me… love and hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and your ever proud Cuzzie)
to every action there are consequences and repercusions…sad for B and H…woo woo woo! PPS
This was deep. You know I understand Tina is hurt, but do she always have to hit. Because whether or not if I had cheated, if you hit me it’s over anyway. You can scream, break stuff but no hitting. Plus I don’t think Tina is that innocent anyway. As for Helena this is a hard one. She has a good woman but their communication skills suck. I just hope ther is nothing in her laundry bag that get her in more trouble then what she is already in. Maybe she will get a call from Tina. Excellent update.
This is not a relationship where there is continual grief and unhappiness……these people have communication problem, and if at the first sign of trouble that there first instinct is to run, then they are going to be running for the rest of their life, soulmate or not.
Well now don’t this just suck a big one! Damn stupid Shane!
You could yell, scream, throw thing{not at me} tear up the house, bri Dont hit me nor Curse me. Tina is great for Bette, everyone work long hours at some point in their job. Bette did,Tina is. and it does get lonesome. but you grin and bear it. Helena will make it with tasha, but Tina and Bette, will Tina forgive Bette for cheating?? Who know. Bette will be the one that will be hurt the most because Tina is a hardhead, thanks
Uhm I don’t really know what to think. I don’t agree with what Bette and Helena did but I always think there are two to tango and I’m pretty sure Tina and Tasha are as much to blame for the way their relationship turned out as their significant others. I know Bette has left Tina alone a lot when she just got promoted but when Tina needed her Bette was there but where is Tina when Bette needs her? Same thing for Tasha, she needs to be stronger, take initiative instead of leaving everything up to Helena. In a relationship both partners need to work on it otherwise it won’t work.I really really don’t like this violence Tina has in her, there are other ways to express how you feel instead of slapping people in the face. The way she acted reminded me of the last episode of season one and I really really hated that one.But that being said I like your writing and I like this story :) PPS darling
Regardless if Bette and Helena ends up together I think they need to take some time out from their relationships and figure out what they really want. At this point they seem like they appreciate what their partner has done for them but being in love is starting to fade. Bette’s reaction to Tina leaving her and Helena’s toward the gift seem more out of guilt then regret.
