Meditiations of Life Part 2
Tina listened at the door, waiting for the muffled footsteps to retreat before she approached Bette. The night as meant to be a celebration of love and friendship, of everything that they both knew they were leaving behind.
Now, the shine had worn and there was a tarnish on their hearts. A tarnish that is currently felt more keenly by the traumatised brunette who had her nose buried in he daughters hair, holding her closely as if she feared to let her go.
“Bette,” Tina called, wanting to gently ease Bette into reality if she could. “Babe,” she called again, walking to her twin hearts. She knew how corny that sounded, and often had Bette scoff at her whenever she would bring it up. Corny or not, it was true.
“Babe?” Tina whispered again, blowing a kiss at Angie when she lifted her head. “Hi Angel.” Tina greeted, gently extraditing their daughter from Bette’s arms. “Go get your audio books honey.” She directed the girl. Tina wanted something the occupy Angie when they were downstairs talking about… things that a 4 year old probably shouldn’t hear.
It also left her time to try and bring Bette around.
After watching Angie walk quickly from the room, she turned back to her finance. Tina loved the sound of that, finance. It spoke to a future of love, happiness and laughter. If only that future could start tonight.
Slowly, as not to startle the woman, Tina rested her hand on Bette’s cheek. Despite the shower, the skin was cold, and the paler was returning to her skin. “Sweetheart, look at me.” She coaxed gently.
It took a moment or 2, but slowly Bette’s eyes tracked her, holding her gaze unblinking for a long moment, then looking away.
“Bette,” Tina sighed, knowing there wasn’t much comfort she could offer in the minutes before Angie returned. Before the police demanded their presence. “Are you okay?”
Bette heard the words, the question. She heard and saw the concern, but she found it difficult to respond. How could she be okay?
Jenny was dead.
She had fallen into their pool and drowned, only minutes after they argued. After she threatened her life.
Bette remembered the tears the glistened in Jenny’s eyes when she dismissed her feelings. When she told her not to interfere, to try and break up the family. Maybe Jenny really believed what she was telling her. Isn’t that what scared her most? That everyone would believe that she hadn’t changed.

just got caught up with both chapters. there is really something about a child’s innocence that grounds us and it was wonderful to see that in this chapter. love how tina is so patient and loving. PPS!
Hiya Deean! Excellent story you have started here. Can I tell you how much I LOVE the way you are writing Tina? Okay, well…I’ll say it. “I LOVE THE WAY YOU ARE WRITING TINA!” LOL. Also, when it comes to kids, they just rock my world. So innocent, perceptive, and gosh I just feel we can learn so much from them, more than adults sometimes. PPS!
If Kit would just back off and leave them alone before she says something everyone will regret. Kit should know better than anyone when Bette is being honest, she doesn’t usually lie to Kit and Kit knows this. NO ONE KILLED JENNY, at least Bette didn’t, if anyone did it was Nicki. Not any of the regular cast members. Jenny probably fell off that balcony where the tape was. Probably reached for it and fell off after instantly recognizing that there was no railing. Angie was good for Bette at this time and she really seemed to be pulled back from the brink when interacting with Angie. Kit needs to back off and leave her to Tina and Angie.
such a magical story you are weaving! So much better than how it really played out.. thank you for writing between the lines! It always blew me away that Kit didn’t believe Bette. Shouldn’t a sister give her sibling the benefit of the doubt? I never understood that and after all of the things Kit has seemingly put Bette through in their life times shouldn’t Kit be just a bit more compassionate? Interesting… I love the Porter-Kennard family unit so full of love and the way you’ve written Tina not only reflects the Tina that we are familiar with from the show but one that has more depth of understanding her true nurturing side is really coming out and it’s beautiful to watch unfold! PPS : )
I really hate that Kit seemed to not believe Bette and instantly believe she cheated on Tina! I love this story and the way you’re writing it. PPS
Throughout the series, when Bette cheated she acknowledged that it had taken place. She never lied or hid that fact. I believe that she was cleaning up the mess that Kelly had produced when the pictures were snapped. Now with ic there is no telling, but Bette’s past behavior showed her to be honest. I love how Tina is slowly allowing Bette to come back to the present time.
Did Bette throw Jenny into the pool???? or she just feel guilty that her last interaction with Jenny was an argument??? Kit needs to chill and get out of Tina’s face. Curious.PPS
If Kit would think it through she would know that Bette never lied to her. Even when Bette cheated on Tina she did not lie. What makes her think she would lie when there is “prove”?
Hi, dear sweet Deean! Indeed there was wisdom in your appreciation of children. They are a miracle and a joy to have in your life. We were blessed with our nephews. They always bring a smile to our faces and they show their love for us through their bear hugs or by saying the right words to cheer us up, when everything around us seems to fall apart. Angie has represented Bette’s dream come true. She cherishes her with all her heart. At this particular time of need, Bette will realize that she still has a loving family that she has to fight for. That thought will sink in and will give her the necessary courage to face the world. We were moved by Tina’s concern. She is really showing Bette that she is behind her 100%. As for Kit, we think she better cool off and step out, if she’s only bringing discomfort to her sister. Thanks for this magnificent update, dear friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
