Maybe This Time

Chapter Four: Closer

Two weeks later…

Tina and Bette had seen each other every day when Bette came to drop off and pick up her daughter. Both women had crushes on one another that didn’t go away. Bette was more confused than ever but wanted to know what this was about while Tina felt the exact same way. She had never ever been attracted to that kind of woman and now, she was. The perfect moment for them to talk was created by Elijah, who asked his mother if his friend, Sterling could come over to play some video games and that is also how Tina had learned that Bette was Sterling’s mother.

Now, the boys were in Elijah’s room and Bette and Tina sat on the sofa, drinking coffee. Jolene was with a friend to. They had been making small talk for a while now and then the conversation died down; Bette decided now was the moment to talk about what she was feeling.

“Tina, can I tell you something?” She asked.

“Uhm, sure.” Tina answered, not really sure what Bette wanted to tell her.

“I don’t really… know what’s happening to me.”

“What do you mean?” Tina asked, still puzzled.

“I think… about… you. A lot and I don’t know what this is. I’ve never had this with… another woman. Anyone, actually. I’m sure I’m not gay, I mean, I can’t be. I’ve always been attracted to men. Not that I’m attracted to you but… I don’t know. I just…” Bette rambled and then stayed silent for a moment while Tina just looked at her with one raised eyebrow, barely understanding what Bette meant. “I’m rambling, aren’t I?” Bette asked and Tina chuckled.

“Yes, you are.” She said.

“I’m sorry… I just don’t know how to say this.”

“Are you trying to say that you have a little crush on me?” Tina asked with a smile.

Bette blushed a bit. “Uhu.” She said, slightly nodding.

Tina grinned. “Well, that’s okay. It can happen.”

“Yeah, but I’m straight which means I like men. And that I’m not interested in women.”

“But you are.” Tina said.

Bette looked at the blonde. “I don’t know.” She said honestly.

“Look, I don’t want to freak you out or anything but I think I have the same feelings for you. I think about you to, more than I probably should. Don’t be scared, I’m not going to jump you or anything but I just think you have the right to know.” Tina explained. Bette got a shocked expression.
