    feelings of familiarity

    Tina turned around and slid her legs loosely around Bette’s waist.  Reaching out she pulled Bette into her arms and began to gently stroke her hair.  “Don’t cry baby please tell me what’s wrong.”

     

    As Bette stilled in the familiar comfort of Tina’s arms she could not find the words to express the emotions that were assaulting her.  Being this close to the love of her life was something that she had feared she would never experience again yet here she was.  She was faced with what her affair had nearly cost her everything.  Suddenly and brutally she  understood the finality of what had happened.

     

    “Shh it’s o.k. I promise,” Tina whispered as she continued to run her hands through Bette’s unruly hair.

     

    Pulling away from Tina’s shoulder she lifted her tear stained eyes and smiled softly.  She leaned forward and kissed Tina tenderly.  Tina felt her own tears begin to trail slowly down her face as their kiss intensified.  She found herself humbled, overcome with the knowledge that the vulnerability Bette was expressing was coming from deep within her broken heart.  Their kisses continued with the need for words being forgotten in their passion.

     

    As Bette sat with Tina on her lap she was comforted in the fact that she was finally able to expose her insecurities and know that they were understood.  Reaching out, her fingers trembling she traced the gentle lines on Tina’s face. 

     

    “I need you so very much T,” she whispered as her fingertips continued their journey, now gently tracing across Tina’s lips.  “I always knew that I loved you but I just realized how much a part of me you truly are.  When you touch me I feel your love,” she said quietly.

     

             Tina opened her mouth slightly and caught Bette’s fingertip between her teeth.  She gently sucked on her fingertip tracing its length with her tongue.  The feeling of reconnection between the two women was the emotional reawakening of feelings both had tried to keep locked away deep inside themselves. Their feelings may have been hidden but they were never forgotten and rushed to the surface with such force that both women were taken aback.

     

    Bette found herself harboring so many different emotions that it seemed as if the walls she had put around her heart for protection were falling rapidly in succession, each one shattering with a force greater than the one before it.  She had tried so very hard to let Tina go, accepting that it was because of her weakness that she would be leaving, yet somehow she always knew that she would never truly be able to let her go.  Only those people who really knew Bette had been allowed to witness her pain and had watched in silence the devastation that she had brought upon herself.

    13. Bette & Tina as characters are so well written in this story. Never a dull moment between them rebuilding and Alice not going home. I am tempted to ask how they will survive even one day aprt when Bette goes back to LA. btw the love scenes are draw droppingly sensual.

    16. I’m a new reader of this story and first let me say congratulations on the award. It was the award that made me say, “Wow, I’m gonna have to read that.” As much as I have wanted to slap Bette and Tina in this story for taking a step forward only to seem to jump back to where they started, this yo-yo effect is actually pretty normal to me anyway. It isn’t always easy to get past an affair, and it probably gets tougher the longer that 2 people are together. At least in Fanfiction Land B&T and can be brought back together if the authors choose to do so. And I agree that Laurel Holloman is doing a kickass job as Tina, even though I want to knock Tina into next year. I’m looking forward to reading more of this!
