Love Soul Heaven Hell – Chapter XX
Tina looked at her coolly, with some surprise, “Really?”
Bette pursed her lips in a small smile.
Marissa was handing Bette a wad of cash, “The winners of each game get to keep a portion of the winnings!”
“Oh!,” Bette exclaimed. Marissa was nodding, “Yeah … everyone who placed a winning bet also gets to take something back, but the bulk of the winnings go to the charity of their choice, of course!”
“However, as the actual winners of the game, you get to keep a nice cut of the pot!” Marissa continued with a smile.
Bette turned to Tina, who smiled back. “Then we’d like this to go to our charities tonight,” Bette said, as Tina nodded.
One of Marissa’s assistants was walking by, and Marissa signaled to her to take the money. “For the kidney disease research charity and the asthma charity, right?” Marissa asked Bette, who nodded.
After chatting with them for a few minutes longer, Bette and Tina looked at each other, thinking that they should be getting home.
Logan was walking by, “Best 5 G bet I’ve ever made, girls!” he said, even more tipsy now.
Bette and Tina looked at him worriedly. Bette turned to Marissa and Peggy, “Tina and I will just head on home now, get Logan back to his place, first, maybe.”
The women nodded. They exchanged quick kisses on each other’s cheeks, while Bette and Tina each braced Logan on either side.
Logan muttered, “Are you girls taking me home?”
“Uh-huh,” Tina responded. Bette was already whipping out her cell-phone to place a call to Logan’s driver, to bring his car over, explaining that he was tipsy.
They walked him carefully down the hotel’s grand lobby area. “Should we send our car home?” Tina asked, looking over to Bette.
“Let’s see,” Bette answered.
As they got to the coat check, Tina fished for Logan’s coat check slip in his pockets, while Bette retrieved their coats. Tina handed Bette the slip she found, but the coat check clerk politely shook his head, “Not our hotel’s.”
Bette raised her eyebrows in a silent question to Tina. The clerk added helpfully, “I think that belongs to the Waldorf Astoria.”
Logan must be leaving coats all over New York now.
