Chapter 75:

The arena is packed waiting for the game between hometown star Bette Porter and her New York Liberty to play the Los Angeles Sparks.  As expected, there is a huge roar when Bette is announced at the start of the game.  Tina is sitting about 10 rows from the Liberty’s bench.  Bette told her she could have gotten her a closer seat but Tina wanted to sit with her friends and enjoy the game.  Her room mate Sabrina is there as well as three of her team mates.  

The game is getting exciting down the stretch.  The Sparks have led by as much as 18 points in the first half.  However, in the fourth quarter, the Liberty have cut the lead to 5 with 3 minutes and 4 seconds to go in the game.  While Bette is attracting lots of double teams, she is still leading all scorers with 19 points so far.

“Damn Tina, your girl is really good?”  Sabrina said with amazement at the rookie’s skills.

“Why do you sound so surprised, Bri?”  Tina said smiling.  

“I’m not.   It’s just when you used to say how good she was, I thought you were just biased because she’s your boo.  But she is really good.”

“Yeah she is.”  Tina said looking with pride as Bette stole the ball when the guard tried to pass the ball into the post.  Bette does not see an outlet so she starts to dribble down the court. The crowd is going wild and Bette is determined to make it to the basket.  She has one guard sprinting to the basket on her left.  She passes to the guard and cuts around her defender on her right and points upward for the guard to feed her the ball up high.  The guard does just that and Bette jumps up high and catches the ball in mid air and puts the ball in her right hand and stuffs the ball through the net.

“Oh shit!” Tina yelled and she got on her feet.

“Damn, did she just dunk the ball?” Tina’s team mate Kelly.  She is one year behind Tina and looks up to Tina like a sister.
“Yeah she did. I didn’t even know she could do that?” Tina said amazed at her beautiful and gifted girlfriend.
