    Lost & Found, Ch 9

    BETTE-  “No you’re not.”

TINA-  “Oh really, and what would YOU call it?”

BETTE-  (Her eyebrows raise and she smiles…)  “Well frig Tina, I’m not even sure what the hec you’re talking about…woman, Manahattan, heart broken…lost in California…you really got to start talking in fuller sentences my friend.  But, be that as it may…you’re not lost.  You are in search of life.”

    TINA-  “Huh?”

BETTE-  “My friend…well, this crazy woman I know…Lia…she once said to me, years ago when she looked, a bit bewildered, into my eyes and my hapless self… ‘Bette, when you are engaged in the search of life you can never be lost…you seek and you will find…your heart, your soul, your life.  When you’ve stopped looking, when you sit there and move nowhere, when you look around and just let life find you…then, ‘cheri’ she said…you are lost…and then you must send out a signal to me and I will come find you!’”

TINA-  (She looks at her in some doubt…)  “Get outa here…”

BETTE-  “I’m serious, this is what she said.”

TINA-  “Another member of the Lesbian Patrol?”

BETTE-  “You know, I’m not sure.  Actually, if you were to come to the gala you’d get to meet her.  She’s in town from Paris.  She’s a member of the art world…but as for the Lesbian Patrol, the jury’s out on that.”

TINA-  (Sitting up…)  “I really wish I could come.”

BETTE-  “Yeah me too…” (Tina looks at her, her head tilting…)  “I mean it’s really a great event…you could meet a lot of people and your favourite Californian so far…Alice will be there, and…yeah…it’s good…you should come…but it’s not a big deal really, I mean you could come by any time.  I’d be happy to give you a tour, like I said before…whenever you happen to have time or want to come by or…whatever…”  (She nods, feeling anxious…)

    TINA-  “Bette…’

    BETTE-  “Yeah…”

    TINA-  “I…”  (Bette looks at her…)  “Nevermind…”

BETTE-  (She sees Tina’s discomfort but doesn’t know what it is so she tries to inject some humour…)  “Oh now…lead me to the cusp and then just stop?  Not allowed!  Out with it…”  (Bette puts her hand on Tina’s leg, almost without noticing, but the gesture is not lost on Tina’s body, which causes her to lose the voice she had found when Bette first called out to her.  Bette notices something more quiet now in Tina’s eyes…)  “Hey…I’m just kidding…I didn’t mean to…”

    1. Merl this was an awesome update! Something about this line just popped out from the page —- “Bette, when you are engaged in the search of life you can never be lost…you seek and you will find…your heart, your soul, your life. When you’ve stopped looking, when you sit there and move nowhere, when you look around and just let life find you…then, you are lost…” I think if there is one small little “life lesson” if you will, it is just a profound piece right there. Thank you for that lovely shout out. I am very much aware at how meaningful the personal shout outs and opening author’s notes are to the readers. I’ll warn ya though, once you start them, they come to be expected!!!! LOL! Thanks so much for the update Merl, post soon won’t you??? ;-))

    2. Ah crap, I hate when that happens. That “I love you, you like me” thing. But it probably is more rare that the feeling is mutual. It take it that with B & T they will eventually discover the feeling IS mutual.

    3. love the dialog but what “recalcitrant” means? i was too lazy to check my dictionary…and don’t worry, my next chapter is coming and it’s hot and sexy…i think LOL

    4. “Man I hope you’re straight…a quick though painful end for my heart to bear…” – number of times I’ve felt this = countless!thanks for the quick update!

    5. Absolutely love this story. I liked shane being protective of Justine and asserting herself when she corrected the pronunciation of her name, loved it. and, well, your slow dance with B & T is enthralling. you could feel Tina just tripping over every word and Bette having small heart attacks at the thought of what Tina really meant! Please post soon, I’m hooked and I need my fix.

    6. So Bette already knows that feeling of loving someone and they not loving you. So Tina and Bette do share something, the case loving someone who does not love them. I think this time that situation will not be an issue. This story is probably closer to a real life situation than most of the stories. You get the real feeling that they are scared to get to know the other. Tina’s feelings sound so real to me (maybe because I have been there).

    7. I´m glad Justine has Shane as a friend and that S hopefully looks out for her a bit. I think Tina should go to the gala and maybe B+T will realize that they already found each other, they just don´t know it yet. And don´t worry I will keep on reading, this story is too good to miss.

    8. Merlin if i knew the answer, i would tell you. There’s a reason that your the writer and i’m the reader. Now 4 pages where getting somewhere. That was great as aways. I think tina needs to listen to her gut feeling and not with your head, she knows she likes bette, why not take the chance. Love is a fantastic feeling and let the girls find it the merlin way.Thank you just don’t keep me waiting to long

    9. Hey there, i forgot to mention, i’ll take my hat off to anyone that attempts to write a story and for that i thank you!!!!!!!!! thank you

    10. T, it’s not how many words you use, it how they are conveyed. You my dear do an amazing job and I can’t get enough of this story. Thanks for the update.
