    Scene 9

    Location: The Planet

Shane is at a table by herself with an espresso cup in front of her.  She’s reading a magazine.  Dana walks in and sits down at the table.

Dana:    Shane thanks for meeting me.  Oh, good Al’s not here, I knew I could count on you.

Shane:    You said it was urgent and not to tell Alice.  What’s up?

Dana:    Shane you’ve got to talk to Alice for me, she’s driving me nuts. She doesn’t let me have a moment to myself, she shows up when I’m training, drops in for lunch at the club and she calls me like 10 times a day when I’m on tour.

    Shane:    Dana, she loves you

Dana:    I know, but I’m from an uptight WASPY family, I’m just not used to anyone showing that much love.  It’s too much.

Shane:    Dane, shouldn’t you be talking to Al about this.

Dana:    I’ve tried, but she just doesn’t get it, she just freaks out on me and wants to know why I didn’t need space when I was with Tonya.

Shane:    Uh, I don’t know, she’s been talking about you coming home non-stop. I’m sure she’s just excited to see you.

Dana:    Shane, you’ve got to help me.  I almost agreed to do a tournament in Dubai because there’s no way in ***** Al would want to go there.

[Shane gives Dana a questioning look.]

Dana:    They make you wear a long black dress thingy that covers you from head to toe and it’s 110 degrees in the shade.

Shane:    Alright I’ll tell her she’s being too intense.

Dana:    Thanks Shane, I owe you one.

    End Scene.

    Location: Bette & Tina’s Backyard

Tina is playing with Angelica, Bette is at the table with her computer and an art book is open. Jenny is in her backyard working on her computer and ease dropping on the conversation.

Tina:    Bette we really need to make a decision.  It’s just not safe.  I can’t relax.

Bette:    Tee, those pool fences are hideous and the automatic covers are expensive and an eye sore.

Tina:    Bette, it’s one thing to decide not to cover the coffee table and every sharp edge in the house with plastic bumpers, it’s another thing entirely to risk letting our daughter or any other child that comes to the house drown.

Bette:    Tee, don’t be so melodramatic, we’re not going to let anything bad happen to Angelica.
