Shannon cleared her throat.

"Don’t mind me." She said.

"Hey sweetie I didn’t know that you were here already." Bette said.

"That’s okay. It does us good to see that you two still love each other especially with everything going on." Shannon said.

"Speaking of which. What time did you tell her to be here?" Tina asked.

"7." Bette said.

"Then that’s probably who just pulled up outside." Shannon said.

"Why don’t you go get the door while I change." Bette said to her eldest daughter.

"Sure." Shannon said. Jess had filled Shannon in on the situation the day before. She knew what it was like to find out something about your past so she told Jess what she went through when she found out about Bette.

The door bell rang just after Bette left the room. Shannon greeted there dinner guest.

"Hi there. You must be Shannon." Anne said.

"Yes Ma’am. Please come in." Shannon said.

"Its nice to meet you. I have heard a lot about you." Anne said.

"I’m sure." Shannon said.

"Anne. It’s nice to see you again." Tina said.

"It’s been awhile what 8 years now." Anne said.

"I believe it has." Tina said greeting her.

Bette came into the room.

"Wow. I don’t believe I have ever seen you change that fast." Shannon said loud enough to get a look from Bette and Tina.

"Why don’t you go get your sister and tell her that it’s time to get ready for dinner?" Tina said.

"But she said." Shannon said.

"I know what she said. Just go." Tina said giving Shannon a stern look.

"Okay. I’m going." Shannon said and headed towards the back door.

"Where are the rest of the kids?" Anne asked.

"They’re up at the ranch with Alyssa for a couple of days." Bette said.

"You have a ranch." Anne said.

"Well it’s Jess’s. Can I get you a glass of wine or something stronger? Bette asked.

"Wine’s fine." Anne said.

"Okay. A glass of wine it is." Bette said.

Shannon walked into the shed where Jess was standing with her back to her.

"Jess! Jess!" Shannon yelled but Jess didn’t hear her. She went over the radio and hit pause on the I-pod.

"What?" Jess said.

"Mama said to go get ready for dinner." Shannon said.

"I am almost done. There." Jess said dropping the brush in a cup of water and paint thinner. Shannon looked at the painting.

"Jess that’s amazing." Shannon said.

"Thanks." Jess said. She picked up a dry painting a shelved next to the others she had painted over time.

"I don’t know why you insist on hiding these. They are your best." Shannon said.

"Yeah well its not up to you." Jess said.

"I know, but I am the only one that has seen them. I just think it’s a waste." Shannon said.

"I tell you what. When I am dead you can show them." Jess said.

"Fine I get the point. You need any help cleaning up." Shannon said.

"Yeah can you dump this out in that bucket." Jess said taking her brushes out of the cup and laying them on a cloth.

"Sure. Is Cat coming to dinner?" She asked.

"No. She wanted to but I told her that it would be tense enough." Jess said.

"You know Mom and Mama aren’t tense around Cat anymore. They even invited her to go with us to South Carolina for thanksgiving." Shannon said.

"I know. I just." Jess said.

"I understand believe me. You could cut the tension over there with a knife." Shannon said.

"I bet." Jess said continuing to clean up. "Cat is going to come get me tonight after dinner."

"So you won’t need me to hang around for a ride to the house." Shannon said.

"No I don’t, but I don’t plan on hanging around her anymore than I have to." Jess said.

"I get it. Come on we better get going before Mama gets in a mood." Shannon said.

"Okay." Jess said laughing. They headed out. Jess cut the lights off and locked the door.
