Life and Love and Why – 41

Tina watched her sister stand up, and join the booth currently occupied by her children. With a sigh, she stood up, and made her way to another booth, this time occupied by her own family. "Hi."

Bette and Angelica looked up as she sat down opposite them.

"Momma T, cookies," Angelica showed her the plateful of cookies on the table.

"Wow." Tina agreed, glancing at Bette. "Momma B bought those all for you, sweetie?"

"Momma B is weak for those puppy-dog eyes." Bette replied. She glanced over her shoulder at where Cathy and her children were. "How did it go?"

"Okay," Tina allowed, shrugging. "Relatively speaking."

"Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day," Bette reassured her. "She’ll come around."

"Yeah," Tina sighed. "I’m not sure what’s wrong."

    Bette lifted an eyebrow.

Tina met her questioning gaze. "There’s a lot of history there."

"I’m not the world’s leading expert on dealing with one’s family, but don’t you think it’s time to let this one go?" Bette inquired, as she watched Angelica hand Tina a cookie.

"Maybe, but at the very least, we’ve agreed to have a truce now," Tina replied, absently taking a bite of the cookie.

"Momma T! No cookie!" Angelica exclaimed, her face a study in horror. She turned to Bette, alarmed. "Momma T eat cookie!"

"Oh, you’re in for it now," Bette laughed, as Tina remorsefully attempted to hand Angelica back the uneaten half.

Angelica pouted at her blond mother, sulking against Bette.

"God. Look at that pout." Tina gave an exaggerated sigh, grateful that her daughter’s antics were distracting her from the lackluster conclusion to her conversation with Cathy. "Come on, Angel. How about I get you more cookies?"

Angelica shook her head, and continued to pout.

Bette laughed, and turned to her daughter. "Boo, you know your Momma T didn’t mean to do that, right?"

    "My cookie." Angelica sulked.

"But you gave it to her. Didn’t you want to share with Momma T?" Bette inquired.

Angelica looked up at her with wide-eyed wonder.

"Didn’t I give you some of my ice cream earlier?" Bette pressed, smiling down at her. "Right?"

Angelica pouted, glancing from one mother to the other, then nodded.

    1. I know there were some pretty serious conversations and undertones in this chapter but… ANGIE!!! She stole the show with her cookie tantrum. That was beyond cute. Thanks, tiff. I can’t wait for the Angie-Eleanor-Mary-Anne friendship to be struck, but only because I am kinda mean and I think it would make things awkward for Cathy. Also, with a name like Eleanor, which in my opinion can only ever suit an older, tough-as-nails woman, it’s no wonder Mary-Anne is the extroverted one. Eleanor probably hopes she doesn’t have to live up to the name :P

    2. At least their is some communication passing between the sisters. Bette has put Cathy and Tina’s sisterhood in perspective by observing Cathy’s girls as they react to others.

    3. It seems as if the Kennards need Tina more than she needs them, at this point… but it’s still good that they’re all at least seemingly going to *try* to work on it, and try to forgive each other. Who knows, maybe one day it’ll be “Aunt Cathy” and “Aunt Tina and Aunt Bette” that the third generation of Kennards all refer to… Nice chapter, thanks, tiff. :)

    4. tiff, still loving this story. Cathy is one hard pill to swallow. But, jp is right, they need Tina more than Tina needs them. Why, i dont know, but maybe you can shed some light on it. PPS.

    5. Perhaps the presence of all those kids helped Cathy to make the invitation, which I suspect was hard for her. Perhaps the presence of all those kids helped Tina accept. Cause they’re all family. And you know what? Back when God was a boy and I was a girl, I had an aunt and uncle who preferred we not address them by those titles, just their given names, which we thought was extremely cool.

    6. Thanks for the quick update! :) Tina and Cathy will never have a close relationship but they can have a closer relationship. The first step has been taken with this conversation. One little step at a time. PPS

    7. It is obvious that Tina needs her family less than her family needs her. Sometimes it’s just too late to get what you want. Still she might find that she has a lot to offer..who knows..?

    8. funnyone, what were you before you were a girl!!??? hehehehe. i will call. tiff, i love this dialogue. especially how angie speaks, its very realistic. this storyline is very applicable to my life about not caring at this time if they accept me or not. thx again.

    9. Great chapter Tiff. Angie is a character and so typical of children her age. Seems that everyone is of the same opinion that the family needs Tina more than she needs them. Tina was always the bright shiny penny in the family, loving, outgoing and friendly with everyone she came in contact with and the townspeople loved her to bits. And as in their life now, she is the gle that holds it all together and that family is not the same without her, hasn’t been for ten years and won’t be until they all let her back in. I’d say, let very jealous Cathy stew in her own stuff, maybe she will see that it is just stupid to be jealous of and hate your own sister that has never done anything to you. She can’t help that she is smarter and more outgoing and lovng than Cathy and that everything gravitates around her. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Wonderful chapter. Post when you can.

    10. Another Amazing chapter!!! I am glad Tina knows that her birth family needs her more then she will ever need them. Realy like how B&T are talking to each other. Just love Angie!!! Thank you

    11. Hey Tiffy…you capture such honesty on paper. Wow. There is power from being released from expectations or wanting reality to be what you want it to be. Freedom…simply to be. This was a powerful chapter. Great dialoque! There is also a tenderness between Tibette…we catch the love and support for each other. Sweet! Thanks again…and so quickly too! Chuckle!

    12. Hey TD, You always capture the humanity and humor of a situation. How adorabel was Angie; Little Miss Huff Puff when her mummy dare to eat a piece of her cookie. Good to have Bette show her the error of her reasoning.Bette and Tina’s discussion about Tina’s family and the influence (or lack) in their life and family was honest.Time can’t erase the words or action from the past however this armistice culd lead to a brighter future as this family reunites.Your words resonate with honest and natural emotions. I love every one.many thanks and I hope to read more of this delicious drama soon.Your Loyal Fan.
