Life and Love and Why – 10
"I’m sure they were happy for you," Bette assured her. "Your dad loves you. I know it hurts that he didn’t stop your mom, but—"
"He keeps Angie’s picture in his wallet." Tina said quietly.
Bette stopped, and lifted an eyebrow.
"They gave his stuff to Paul for safekeeping. And…"
"See?" Bette said, gently pushing back a lock of hair from Tina’s face. "And when he recovers, you can tell him everything."
"What if he doesn’t?"
"Of course he will." Bette said reassuringly.
"But what if he doesn’t?" Tina asked. "What if he dies? And he’ll die, thinking I hated him that much. That I just sent them Angie’s picture and never forced them to meet her. That I was fine, the whole time I wasn’t here, that it was fine that they could disappear from my life."
"Tee," Bette interjected gently, "he knew. I’m sure he knew you still loved him."
"But—"
"He’ll pull through. And you’ll get to tell him everything."
Tina fell silent, and closed her eyes again.
Bette regarded her for a moment, but when Tina did not speak again, and her breath evened out, she realized Tina had fallen asleep.
Bette hesitated, trying to figure out if she should leave. Tina had said she’d wanted her to stay, but did that only extended up until she’d fallen asleep? Now that the blonde slept, did the offer still stand?
But if she left, and Tina woke up, she would think that Bette had left the first opportunity she had.
Bette felt the fatigue of her sudden trip, and the sleepless night, take over her body. She lay on the other side of the bed, and glanced at the still body of the blonde.
She’d promised Helena she would be here for Tina unconditionally, but the truth was, it couldn’t be helped. There were conditions, and she and Tina would have to talk.
She closed her eyes, and sighed.
She shifted to her side, and opened her eyes.
Tina was looking at her.
Bette held the blonde’s gaze for a moment, realizing now that Tina hadn’t fallen asleep, she’d been trying to relax. Maybe she’d just needed to get all that off her chest, and had then tried to recover from it all.
"T," Bette began, but faltered. She had no idea what she wanted to say, what she could tell Tina to comfort her.
So instead Bette silently extended her arm, guiding the blonde to her, pulling her into an embrace as Tina started to cry.

Bette is where she’s supposed to be — the rest is details. :-) Crises have a way of clarifying what’s really important. I agree, Helena is a good friend. I understand Tina’s fear that she’ll never be able to tell her father how much she loves him, although IMO he already knows – as a daughter she can’t help but feel that. Tina doesn’t need a white knight, though having Bette beside her surely provides something essential. Thanks for this story.
Great update. Nice to see Bette being there for Tina.
Oh Tiff, what a fabulous update. The death of Bette’s father drew them back together before, let’s hope that Tina’s father (even if he gets well) draws them back together againg. When they are both emotionally spent, their guard is down and they are able to see, hear and understand each other’s vulnerabilities best. I can’t wait for your next post Tiff…I really can’t!
Regardless of what is happening in Bette and Tina’s relationship they are still bound together through their undying love. They may not realize that the love is still there, but it definitely is or Bette would not be there with Tina during this difficult time. Awesome post and thanks for writing again.
Good to see that Helena did not go to see Tina and let common sense prevail and let Bette go to her. Helena is a good friend but Tina needed Bette at this time. Also so happy Tina did not reject Bette’s attempt to comfort her. They are where they belong, together. That was a wonderful chapter. Thanks for posting.
I’ve always thought, until now, that ‘Endless Love’ by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie was the most mawkish of tunes. However, “My first love, you’re every breath that I take” came to mind while reading that last sentence. Bette and Tina belong. They have a bond that transcends disagreements. They are each others family. You made that very plain. They can talk details later. Thank you.
Beautiful
This is so good and wonderful!
omg a new post!!! I love your story and I only wish you would post daily!!! I am so looking foward to your next post
I don’t think Mr K thinks Tina hates him, and even if he did, her presence at the hospital should be proof enough that she doesn’t. Bette’s presence, that’s proof of something as well, but whether Tina can deal with everything that’s going to have to be discussed as well as her father’s health issues is another thing entirely. Nice update, tiff. Thanks
Awesome Brilliant update!:) I’m so happy Bette is there with Tina (I’m doing a happy dance :D) Thank you for this story and I’m so glad that it’s Bette comforting Tina. Thank you again :)
God I had been dying for a new post from you Tiff! Finally Tina can just let go all her anxiety and frustration about her father’s health and know that it is with the right person who is there to support her no matter what and I believe Bette will be everything that Tina needs right now. Thanks Tiff! More soon pls! :)
I am also doing the happy dance. I am really, rally happy that Tina called Bette. Bette is Tina’s rock, her confidante. I hope they take this time to talk to each other without outside interference. I hope Tina’s dad wakes up soon, so she can tells him that she loves him. Great update. I love this story. PPS
Great update! I’m so happy that Bette is with Tina instead of Helena! Happy dance:-). Can’t wait for the next post. PPS
I was waiting the whole weekend, then realised it’s memorial day weekend in the states. Thanks Tiff!Tina is becoming undone, and let herself go when Bette is there. Bette needs to be more sure of herself, of her intentions.I am hoping Bette and Jodi’s done before she went to see Tina. Please post soon! Please please don’t let Bette another room! They need to be together as much as possible during this trying time in Tina’s life.
That was a very good update. I am happy to see Bette being the person there that Tina needed. I have no doubt that she would be there unconditionally. Maybe Mr. K and wake up soon and reassure Tina.
Helena is a good friend.
Bette will know instinctually what to do, the type of solace and comfort that Tina needs b/c she is her true soulmate regardless of their present situation.JB played Bette as such a force of nature that for me, it’s impossible to imagine anyone else in the role and for Bette to act in anyway but loving w/Tina. I think they both learned from their mistakes. Post as soon as you can.
So sad…so awkward…T needs unconditional love & support…Bette has the history, let’s hope she can give T what she needs. PPS!
Wonderful as always Tiff. Thanks!
yes, bette is awesome…helena is great too, and i’m glad tina could let it go in bette’s arms
HEY TD, I am back and ready to comment of this fabulous fan fiction. I was overjoyed when Bette appeared at the hospital. Now the reality of this situation is starting to take affect. Tina and Bette so berlong together that it takes a family health emergency to get them in the same room. I do hope that this help them sort out their true feelings. Bette and Tina have the kind of connection most of us just dream about. Time to let it flow and show them how important them are to each other and how they should move forward, together. Please continue soon as I really love your style of drama and narrative. A true pleasure. Your Loyal Fan.
I LOVE this story so much that it got me to read all your other past stories (mini-marathon I may add – love ALL of them). You write so well. I’m so glad Bette is with Tina in the hotel room – she knows how to take care of her woman and will certainly be able to handle Tina’s mom and sister if needed.
