Lies My Parents Told Me 5

As always thank you for the feedback. Now on with the show.

    The Kennard-Porter Household, 2010

Joss sat up in bed clutching her favorite stuffed animal. A giraffe she had gotten at her first visit to the San Diego Zoo. She had just woken up form a bad dream. Everything in the dark seemed scary through her five year old eyes.

Mommy, Joss called out as she held her giraffe tighter. Mommy, Joss called out again louder then the first time. She pulled the blanket over her head and held onto her giraffe.

Tina rushed into her daughters bedroom and turned on the light followed by Bette. Joss slowly pulled the blanket down Tina sat down next to her daughter and ran her hand across her cheek.

Its okay baby mommy is here now. Tina said soothingly as she continued to stroke her daughters face. It was just a bad dream. Tina said.

Bette walked into the room and sat down on the other side of the bed. Joss looked over at Bette.

Bad things under the bed mommy, Joss said.

Do you want me to check? Bette asked.

Joss nodded her head and Bette got off of the bed and checked underneath it.

    No monsters, Bette said.

Are you sure mommy? Joss asked.

Im sure nothing under the bed. Bette said.

Joss pointed toward the closet door. Bette stood up and opened the closet.

    No monsters, Bette said.

Are you sure mommy? Joss asked.

Bette nodded her head before sitting down on Josss bed. Tina made room for Bette in the small bed.

Want me to read you a story? Tina asked.

Joss nodded her head. Bette handed Tina a book off of the night stand. Tina opened the book and cleared her throat.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi and Ron Barrett We were all sitting around the big kitchen table. It was a Saturday morning. Pancake morning. Mom was squeezing oranges. Henry and I were betting on how many pancakes we could eat. And grandpa was doing the flipping. Tina read.

I always thought that nothing could touch my parents. They seemed to have this incredibly solid relationship. I could only one day hope to find someone that cared about me as deeply as they did for each other. They just made such a great team. I just wanted to hold onto the idea that they were invincible.

    1. i really enjoy reading this and look forward to finding out what they can’t work out or get over. i mean, as it stands, the helena and candace things happened right? but it seems that they stayed together. will this seperation finally help them find their way back? i also like hearing about the interactions with bette and her art projects as well as the element of katie peabody. will joss’s mothers finding out who their daughter loves help start the process to air out the dirty laundry? please! keep going, i’m super interested.

    2. Just read all of your chapters. I like your writing style; especially Joss POV. Hey is anyone here in a lesbian relationship with child? Is it as awkward as Joss calling both mommy. I would think the kids would have different names for each of her mothers. Oh well…. PLEASE don’t let these two separate. They have to learn to communicate to solve their problems and stop running and pushing each other away. They have a child to think about now. The can’t be selfish; besides what happened to therapy. Didn’t learn anything from the Candace fiasco.

    3. Hope Joss is wrong when she says “You’re getting separated the end.” I have mixed feelings about this story – I like your writing but I don’t like what your writing about. It breaks my tibette heart.

    4. Well, I would sat that I dont want this to happen, but I guess thats what you had in mind when you started writting this wonderful story. Of course we dont want them to brak up, especially with a chils. Bette and Tina just makes sence. No, fuck it…I’m gonna say it anyway. Please dont let them break up, seperate or that other bullshit parents ay to make you feel better. We need a Bette and Tina, without them it just doesnt make sense. I say you take them through this and when they see Joss’ project then they will see how stupid this is and how much they love each other. Thats just my 2 cents. I would say update soon but, and although I love this fantastic stary. I’m in no hurry to watch (read) how 3 peoples lives will be destroyed by this. Great story though.

    5. B&T clearly have some huge issues that have built up over the years, but they don’t seem to want to resolve them. Maybe Jess will end up being the go-between

    6. I’m reslly liking this story, I think it’s the hardest thing for a kid to see their parents falling apart like that. Even though I’m very into the whole BnT thing coz their so good together, I think they should get things back on track for their daughter!
