    Let The Games Begin

“So, you mean to tell me that you never even thought of kissing her?” Bette asked Helena as they walked through a park, arm and arm.

“Never once.  Not until she kissed me had I ever had an idea of being a lesbian.”

    “What was her name?”

    “Dylan.”

    “She must’ve been beautiful.”

“She was.”  Helena’s eyes met with Bette’s for a moment.  Bette’s eyes were so bright and alive.  She resembled Bambi, with the wide eyes and the innocence that played across her face, “So, tell me about your hot date?” Helena smirked.

“Why do you want to know about her?” Bette looked at Helena, questioningly.

“I’d like to get to know my competition.” She smirked, reaching around Bette’s waist and pulling her closer as she felt an eerie chill in the air.

    “Competition, huh?”

“Yes.  I’d like you to know, I’m very competitive, especially when it comes to something I want.”  Bette’s blush made Helena laugh.

“Well, her name is Tina.  She’s about yay high.” She held out her arm, measuring Tina to be a few inches shorter than she, “She’s blonde.”

    “Is she sexy?”

    “Very.”

    “Hmm…” Helena said.

    “Don’t tell me you’re jealous!”

“Okay, I won’t.”  Bette’s hand slid lower on Helena’s waist, daring to hold her by her hip.

“You have nothing to be jealous of.”

“Because you think I’m sexier, right?  Or because you really like me?”

“A girl’s gotta have some secrets.”

“I suppose she does.” Helena just smiled, knowing the answer to her question.  The eerie chill in the air was there again.  She knew it wasn’t safe here for Bette.  Tina was around.  Helena could sense her, “It’s getting late, love.  We should probably be getting you home.”  Bette nodded in agreement as Helena walked her to her car.

“When are you going to give me your number, Helena?” Bette asked.

“A girl’s gotta have some secrets.”

Helena heard the knock on her door and knew who it was.  Alice.  She decided against meeting her at the bar for the same reason she was spending her night alone.  This woman was getting the best of her.  Her game was off thanks to Bette Porter.

She opened the door and smiled, “Alice.  Hello.”

“Hello, my ass!  Where the hell were you?  I waited by the bar for hours!”

    “Please, come in.”

“You better have an explanation.”  Alice fell onto the couch and waited for Helena to speak.

“I don’t think I can play this game anymore, Alice.”

    “What?  Why not?”

“I think I’m falling in love with her.”

“What the hell?  How does that happen, Helena?  You just met her.  You barely know her.”

“I don’t need to know anything.  I just know that I can’t bite her or turn her or anything like that because I care about her.  I want her to live a long happy productive life.  She can’t do that with me in her life.”

“So, what do we do now?  Hand the crown over to Tina?”

“No, of course not.  I wouldn’t dare let Tina hurt her.” Helena sat beside Alice, “I’m going to tell Bette everything.”

“Now, that…that is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.  Why?  So she can go to the police and they can send in the scientists and do all sorts of horrible experiments on us?”

    “She wouldn’t do that.”

    “And you know that because?”

    “Because I just know.”

Bette had finally settled into her home for the night when there was a knock at her door.  She climbed out of bed and went to her door.  Swinging it open, she stood face to face with her date.

    “Tina, hi.  Is something wrong?”

“Yeah, I forgot to give you something.”

    1. WOW!!!! That was really so mean to end the chapter like that. I just hope Tina does not bite Bette. Ash you are becomming good at being a TEASE. Thanks PPS Great Chapter

    2. OMG this must really be pick on Elizabeth Porter week…first she has narrowly escaped being vampirized in hb’s fic, yet still in danger of becoming extremely hairy in the full moon, and NOW…the bad vampire is gonna get her, and Helena isn’t around to save her!! Where’s the garlic? Where is the cross?? …….you ARE very good at teasing ash….pleeease dispatch tina far away and let helena love her….pleeeeeeeeeeeeease

    3. I love Helena’s protective instincts where Bette is concerned. Now would be a really good time to put those instincts into action. Come on, Helena. Save Bambi!

    4. I’m loathe to admit I want Helena to win :( I love both pairings but in this fic.. Yes, I want Helena to win :] Thank you Ash for posting this update.

    5. what the hell was that?? you gonna leave us like that to figure out what will happen with Tina and Bette. I really hope that you don’t let Tina turn her because I really want to see Bette and Helena together, but that puts up a wall cause Helena doesn’t want to turn Bette whatsoever. So what’s going to happen??? lemme know!!! PPS!

    6. never mind the shout outs, as long as you give us a good long story ;-) — well, that post was good, (but not long enough, you tease) well, when a vampire falls in love, what can she do ? I just hope that Tina won’t be quicker than her :-)

    7. awww, you know who i wanna see win. though i’ve considered changing my name from time to time, for the sake of not having people judge me, i’m heavily in favor of one pairing…the obvious one…and even more obvious in your story which is sooooo sweet. i know i shouldn’t think that a vampire is sweet, but helena’s a great character in this one! she’ll save bette, i know she will. post soon? tonite perhaps? pleeeeeeeeeeeeeez? and longer? puleeeeez? hehehe such a great story:)

    8. After ALL this time, Helena doesn’t understand what she’s up against in Tina? Why is she sitting home debating with Alice when she needs to be en guard over at Bette’s? Maybe she can borrow some bat sense from Batman. If she doesn’t spread her wings and fly quickly to Bette’s rescue, she WIll have handed victory to souless Tina.

    9. This would have been a better follow-up movie than ‘The Bride of Frankenstein’ for post-Flashdance JB. …Helena with a heart – who’d a thunk it? Can an undead become a mortal again? I predict a clash of the dead’uns over the love of BP. Altruistic vampires have to die and take their competition with them. How else can Bette be safe? Don’t break our hearts for halloween! Good chapter!

    10. I was thinking the same thing..that Helena can smell what people are thinking..but she doesn’t know that tina the soulless is swooping down on our poor defenseless Bette as we speak? Maybe her battery needs charging?
