Leap of Faith (Chapter 4)
Don’t sweat the small stuff. It was a saying Dana never understood until she was in the midst of fighting to stay alive. Until then everything in her life had been about achievement and the major goals. And she’d been pretty good at it too, on the court and off. The titles, the investments, the carefully crafted image were all proof that she’d been incredibly successful at concentrating on the big picture.
Things changed when every morsel of her energy was focused on taking the next breath. Dana realized in an instant that the mundane, everyday moments with Alice were a hundred times more important to her than any trophy she ever won. It took her a while longer to realize that the business of living every day fully requires every bit of the same drive and determination. In fact it wasn’t until she accompanied Alice back to the hotel where Winnie Mann had nearly killed her almost two years after the fact, that the knowledge completely and truly sunk in.
Alice tried to stay quiet as she began to take deep breaths in an effort to choke back the feelings that she’d buried so deeply. She reluctantly released Dana’s hand as they pulled up to the valet. Al began shaking in the fifteen seconds it took for Dana to rush around the car to take her hand again. Her knees were weak, but she refused to surrender to her fear.
“You don’t have to go in,” Dana said gently as she slid her arm around Al’s waist and supported her.
“I really think I do.” Al’s trembling voice rocked Dana’s calm veneer for a fleeting second, something not lost on Alice. “I can do this,” she said, this time with a noticeable spark. “I can.”
Each step to the door took every ounce of nerve Al could muster and Dana knew it. She wanted to take her wife in her arms and shelter her from this terror, to make it all go away, but with every agonizing inch of progress she decided anew that if Al kept going, so would she. By the time they walked through the doors, they were both fighting the panicked urge to run.
They made their way to the far side of the lobby, and turned left. Alice froze. She hadn’t expected the place to be this beautiful. The marble floor into which she had plummeted was polished to an icy finish. The etched glass and stainless barrier on the mezzanine above reflected the soft blue light that came through the three-story tinted glass wall opposite it. The seating areas along that wall were the perfect blend of form and function: inviting and minimal at once. Only when she felt Dana’s hand grasping her waist with so much force did Alice realize that she was holding Dana’s other hand so tightly that her knuckles had begun to ache.

OK first off this was the best chapter so far Sammy!!!! I Loved it,u write so freaking awesome and alls I can say Is Awww. Im pissed at Laras Family for being such Assholes! GAWD! And im proud at Shane for going to see Someone for her problems! Im VERY proud of Alice for going through that place and reliving that nightmare,And then Dana being so loving and careing (God u rock Sammy) The sex was Fucking AWEsome,u say i rock, not by a long shot,U ROCK~ Thanks and PPS
Where oh where to begin. Helena’s insecurity is palpable and I am glad that Lara caught on. I feel so terrible for Lara having to deal with her family. I hope Helena takes care of her. The Alice and Dana was amazingly written pain, terror, reconciliation, and finally LOVE! Living with some who is clinically depressed let’s you see things in people and I wondered if that may be a route you were taking with Shane. It is mind numbingly terrifying and for friends and family it is confusing and painful. I hope with the groups continued love and support Shane will find her way through.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I am so proud of Alice and Dana to make it through going to that hotel. The support they show each other is really touching. Lora and Helena are killing me. I hope they don’t end up throwing what they have away. I am a bit concerned about Bette. I know Tina has faith in her (and so do I) but she does need to be carefully that she doesn’t impact her job in any way. I’m glad Shane has been diagnosed. I hope she will follow doctor’s orders — and tell her friends about it so they can help support her. Alice’s explosion of anger and tears was so real. She never really did have a chance to process those feelings. Could Dana have been any sweeter or supportive? And the NC-17 at the end? Excellent! I think Alice needed that after the day she had to reaffirm life. I simply love your writing. Every sentence is a thing of beauty. Thank you so much for this amazing story!!
After a chapter like that, the only one doing any bar-setting here is you! You proved my point again, this installment is better than all the previous. Alice’s breakdown and the support Dana gave her during and afterwards were brilliant. Shane’s diagnosis wasn’t entirely surprising, and I’m glad she has such good friends to help her through. Lara’s family sounds a lot like mine. I feel so bad for her, but just as bad for Helena being so insecure. I hope Bette and Tina are able to overcome the slutty TA’s plans. And don’t worry, there won’t be any scrolling from me…unless of course I absolutely have to in order to keep reading.
always excited 2 see this story…

What can I say I Love this story…Cute “Game Set & Match!”

hiya,I’m kind of very late into this, since I was out of town for a while, but being able to read this with all the updates made it that more better! Fantastic story, great quality as always. Great to see Danish becoming parents soon. I also love the storyline about Lara and Helena. Hope Lara’s family is not going to be too bad to her. Can’t wait for the next update! :)
Its always a pleasure reading your stories mama b. You know, its even better when I’m not doing a horrible job proofing for you. But you always have my back, even when I’m trying to have yours you had mine…its safe to say that when backs are being had you’ll always have the final back in the back having process. Also I must give kudos on you portrayal of Alice’s feelings at the hotel it really pulled me in and kept me. I’ve read it three times and it still really grips me. Also the sex was hot hot hot very smooth transitions on that ankle move, Dana’s no slouch in the sack apparently. I can’t wait for the next chapter and for the AlShaDane conversation. PPS Luv Lil’Cubz
