    Bette, Tina, Dana, Alice, Shane, Carmen, Helena, Dylan, Kit, Angus, Peggy, and Marilyn discover what John Lennon said in the song, “Beautiful Boy” is absolutely true: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

    Eleven Months Later

    Dana had gone for a morning run and was now standing in the kitchen with her hand over the lid of the Vita-Mix blender they had received as a wedding gift.  The blender whirred and mixed her protein drink while she glanced around at the items on the counter.  There were two empty halves of an avocado with the large seed sitting in one of them, a banana peel, the core of an apple sticking out of a corer, a small biodegradable container of blueberries, an opened plastic cup of yogurt, a large jar of rice protein powder, a box of rice milk, and a bag of raw almonds next to the blender—evidence of what was in her shake.  On the other side of the blender were two covered Pyrex casseroles filled with side dishes and a springform pan containing a poppy seed torte.

    This afternoon, they were going over to Bette and Tina’s for a potluck Thanksgiving dinner and the Fairbankses were contributing two sides and a dessert.  Dana looked at the torte.  “Al?  Honey?” she shouted over the whirr of the blender.  “Alice?”  Dana stopped the blender and walked over to the springform pan and stared at its contents.  “Honey, what kind of cake is this?”

    Alice walked into the room tying the drawstring of her pajama bottoms.  “Good morning, sweetie.” 

    “Hi.  You were so cute this morning.  Your bottom lip was out when you were sleeping and you kept saying, ‘bluh-bluh, oh, bluh-bluh.’”  Dana kissed her.  “Adorable.”

    “You were quiet when you left.”  Alice leaned against the counter and watched as Dana emptied the contents of the blender into a large glass tumbler.

    “You never notice when I get out of bed.”

    “Oh, yes, I do.  That’s what woke me up, no body heat coming from your side.”

    “Al, I’ve been up for almost two hours and you’re still in your pjs.”  Dana smiled.  “So, what kind of cake is this?  It looks like they’re poppy seeds on it.”

    “That’s the makowiec.  Remember, the traditional Polish torte.  We had it when Isador took us to meet my cousins.  We had it at Brygitta’s house in Lublin.  And yes, it’s poppy seed.”

    Dana nodded and then said, “Well, there’ll probably be other desserts over at Tina and Bette’s.  I don’t think Tina can have those.”

That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    13. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    18. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. I prolonged finishing the last chapter didn’t want t see it end, but like the L word, like tibette chemistry, all good things but come to end….Bravo!! my friend I hope to see a book with your name on it forreal..til next story………

You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
