Chapter 8
Bette looked down at the bag her sister had packed for their breakfast, she had very nearly forgotten that she had asked Kit to put something together, such was the effect that Tina was having on her.
Forgetfulness…, was that a symptom of being smitten…?
It must have been, they had been walking back to their cars deep in a mindless conversation about Alice, when Kit had shouted to her, waving a brown paper bag with a big Planet blazoned on the side.
Kit had rolled her eyes, but with the roll came a twinkle, one where no words were accompanied, they weren’t needed…
Bette waited for Tina to park her car behind hers. It had been a very different drive home than it had been to the Planet earlier, very different…
How was it that, in a matter of minutes, ones whole thought process and whole demeanour of your outlook on life in general could change, how was that even possible…?
But Bette felt it, Tina felt it…, those rare minutes shared in the bathroom of the Planet gave meaning and understanding and gave them both the ability to side step the high emotions that had preceded during the previous day.
Tina watched as Bette stood and waited for her, she thought she still looked pale, drawn and maybe still a little uptight, or maybe vulnerable was closer to the mark, yes…, she looked vulnerable and sensitive, and Tina could take a guess at the fact that it was not a position that Bette Porter was used to being in.
As she looked at the woman standing in her faded Levis that seemed to fit her like a second skin, and a faded Aerosmith tee shirt, she suited the vulnerable look… It was endearing, it was touching, it was making her heart beat that little bit faster.
Bette Porter made Tina’s heart beat faster than any other person she had ever known…, and if a vulnerable Bette Porter did that to her then…
‘STOP that train of thought Tina’, she told herself. Her mind had been wandering far too much these past couple of days, and she needed to focus on the here and now.

Jo…this was excellent and I loved the ease of the dialog. Let me jut ask, what’s up with Lily? Is she going to come between Bette and Tina as they finally begin to lay it all on the line? Thanks Mate…post as soon as you can! I love it!
Maybe I missed it or just don’t remember but who’s Lily? Love how Bette gets so emotional with Tina. Hell whats the difference if she’s gay or not, were are talking Bette here. Tina just needs to kiss her and Bette needs to tell her about Lily.
Tough conversation; and u left us hanging: is Tina gay? well, she’s not backing off so she’s apparently open to the idea…bi-? probably…like the emotional, unsure , lonely Bette so hoping golden girl will bring sunshine into her life…and that Alice will shut up about the ‘Lady Slayer’ nonsense and get into digging B & T as a couple…thank god for Kit huh???…
Brilliant! I just love the flow and dialogue of your stories… 5 pages and I’m still left begging for more.

Who is Lily? Little cliff hanger but if the kiss dismantled Tina then she must be feeling something heavy for Bette. From the previous chapters I get the feeling she has been with a woman before.. but if she hasn’t then Bette can be first, last, forever in this beautiful story. So, either way works for me. Can’t wait for the next one. I seriously check to see if this is updated all the time. So into this story. Its ridiculously romantic to me.. thus far. PPS.

Oh Jo… I so love your stories… it’s good to have you back… As for Tina being gay or not ?… considering the situation, it has no importance at all… she is obviously VERY attracted to Bette, almost to the point of being unable to resist… the point is not “is she gay ?” but “does she want to resist ?”… if it was me, like a lot of other women, I could not for an hour, let alone more than a DAY ;-)) Please continue, sooooooooooonnnn

Hmmm….well Tina DID kiss Bette in an unchaste way on the dance floor. I don’t think you can blame that on Prince. I don’t think Bette needs to worry about how Tina has labeled herself here to for. And frankly, she should have licked the croissant flakes off of Tina’s mouth. But then, breakfast ain’t over yet.
It seems that Tina does not know if she is gay or just Bettesexual. It is interesting that both women are extremely unsettled when it comes to their feels for one another. Heck they unsettle me and the are fictional characters played by two incredible women.

Hi Jo… you say you had trouble with this chapter. I can see why it would be a difficult chapter to write given that both Bette and Tina struggle so much to verbalize and even acknowledge this instant attraction. But the result is breathtaking… and the dialogue so evocative. I really felt how difficult it is for Bette to put into words what she doesn’t yet seem to understand completely. She did good though… and so did you LOL (same thing really). I love where you’re taking this story. Thank you x

Hey Jo, I read almost all of you chappys in a row and as I was reading I noticed how you put yourself in it, I mean its unique, its yours. I could know you wrote it even if it wasn’t signed by you. Its great as usual, and I may say you control time (inside the story) and portray the characters deep emotions, perfectly. ;) Its good to see you writing again.
I think Bette’s question is a reflection of her insecurity about her feelings–since she’s been so superficial with women, the one for whom she has genuine feelings couldn’t be a “member of the fold”, so it couldn’t last, anyway. She’s grasping at straws, looking for reasons why this couldn’t possibly work out. Maybe I’m being too deep, but whatever Bette’s resistances and fears may be, I believe Tina is the one who will help her overcome her need to be emotionally detached from now on! Great post as always, jo!
Another fantastic chapter, Jo ! How unusual ! LOL ! Anyway, random thoughts here since I’m at work and therefore supposed to be working ( oops!) : it’s funny because when Bette was telling Tina how she felt her life was empty I couldn’t help but think that all these things could have been said by season 1-Shane ( well, except for the passion for her job part )… Have these two merged ? Or are they twins ? LOL !! As for Tina being gay or not, even though you already hinted that she was bi, I agree with Helene78, it really doesn’t matter at this point, does it ? The attraction between the two is so obvious, so unquestionable ! This chapter was exactly what I was waiting for, Jo, or better yet ( because you keep surprising me with your stories of course ), it was exactly what I wanted to read. It’s so relieving to finally see Bette being able to really express herself and open up to Tina. The frustration she must have been feeling up to this point must have been soooo excruciating… Not knowing what Tina was thinking, how she was feeling, not being sure that Tina trusted her and her explanation of the club’s “debacle”, and everything… Loved loved loved the chapter Jo !!
Hey Jo, Let me say off the bat that it is great to have you back posting a new and intense story. I have been in the throes of moving house so just now am catching up with all your latest additions. As always, you never disappoint; your writing in full of the overwhelming nature of meeting your one true love. Both Bette and Tina have been thrown through the loop and are on unfamiliar ground. I love that they have both reacted to this differently. Neither gal is able to or ready to admit to the depth of their emotions. It is as if they have invaded by an alien. Everything is suddenly different and yet they are at peace. There is a sense of belonging that neither gals have experienced in previous relationships. Typical of Kit and Alice to put their size 10s into the mix. Tina’s reaction to this was priceless as she compelled to go to Bette. Tina needed to sort these feelings out to put her own mind at rest. And talking with Bette and talking them through is the only way to go. Can’t wait to see how this all develops. It will be a ride and a half. Thank you so much for this delightful and delicious drama. Your Loyal Fan.
God, isn’t it amazing meeting someone with whom one can finally broke all the walls and let her/his true being revealed ? This part of Bette’s character always touched me in such a personal way, for I deeply shared with her this strange but wonderful feeling the day I realized someone – the one and only – found the key of my heart and soul… *** More than ever I love this beautiful story of yours, dear author.
