    Chapter 27

Bette sat in her car, still parked in her own driveway.

She’d had an evening gazing at the stars with a mind full of tumultuous thoughts that ranged from the beginning and end of every spectrum she could possibly imagine.

She felt drained.  Emotionally and physically, possibly not helped by the bottle of Merlot that she had consumed in an attempt to digest and process the day’s happenings.

Regardless of the alcohol she had consumed it had also been a restless and fitful sleep.  She couldn’t help but still feel torn between the relief and dread of Lily and Tina’s news.

And now she was about to drive and see Lily and then after…, she was meeting Tina at the beach.

The beach was Tina’s request of a meeting place, one she hadn’t questioned but did wonder about.

She had called Tina the previous day so many times that she had lost count, there was no answer on her home phone and her cell was seemingly switched off.

The only conclusion Bette was able to come to was that Tina needed time and space.  It was a conclusion she was trying to accept amongst the myriad of thoughts and concerns for the woman she wanted to support. Tina’s call came during the night, in what must have been during the few moments that Bette had actually fallen asleep.

She had discovered the message on her answer phone early this morning, just a quick message to ask to meet Tina at the beach.  Her voice had sounded broken and sad, and it broke Bette’s heart to think that Tina still wanted to come to terms with the day in assumed solitude, she also wondered whether Tina would be keeping her distance if the outcome of Lily’s appointment had been different.

She was positive there were those elements in Tina’s distance, but she also understood that due to the sensitive and selfless nature of Tina as a person, she would probably be thinking that Bette needed to be with Lily and there for Lily and was therefore not drawing on some much needed support for herself.

Bette reversed out of her drive and shifted into drive, she sped up the road a little quicker than she should have as the emotions of unfairness rippled through her.  She felt pulled, there was no one pulling her in any direction, she was doing that all by herself.

    1. Jo, you’re back! YAY! Why is it that there were only two pages to this chapter? =) Are you writing the next already? Or are you re-watching episode 6 for inspiration? LOL

    2. Great update…short update!..lol..I think we all need “a Lily” in our lives at some stage..understanding but unintrusive, yet always a presence..what a lovely lady!…looking forward to the weekend then! cos you promised the next chapter…lol

    3. I just love Lily! I agree with B, that everyone needs a Lily in their life. I’m glad I have a couple of beautiful flowers that accompany my life. This story only gets better, and to be a little selfish, I am GLAD you will have more time to write this weekend. We will get more of this story, and I would never mind another Levi Tina situation either!!!! Thanks Jo! :- )

    4. Love this story. Its really heavy though.. the whole cancer storyline is tough to read. I’m glad that Lily is continuing to push Bette towards Tina. Those two kids need to work their shit out. They were having so much fun when they first met.

    5. I am so heartbroken for Bette that she is going to lose her Lily after losing her Mom. I hope that Tina can get past all her recent difficulties with Eric and the cancer scare and let Bette in to help her deal with all the aftermath.

    6. What an emotional chapter, Jo! Unfortunately, cancer always drains people’s strength and spirit. Thanks for the update. We hope that perhaps, as a Valentine’s present for us, your faithful readers, could you post soon?*wink* Hugs.- Lucero & Marsha – Your loyal fans from Mexico City

    7. Thanks to Lily for keeping Bette stable. I am sad that Lily will not be around much longer. It is through Lily that Bette has become the woman she is today. What love Bette has learned has come from Lily.

    8. Hello Jo, Brilliant to have you back posting this wonderful tale. I just love how you capture the intensity of the emotions being played out. Bette is split in two right now. She wants to be there and be strong for Lily yet she wants to run away to find and comfort Tina. Now Tina and Bette need to sort through the revelations of the last few days. They do belong together. Just make it so. Thank you for this magnificent melodrama. You make me happy and sad; angry and relieved. Jo, you have the gift of making your reader feel the reality of each situation. My gratitude for all that you craft. Your Loyal Fan.
