Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty Eight (a HYD-inspired fic)

“What do you want Al?” Shane McCutcheon warily asked as she picked up her phone.

“Nothing..” Alice smiled into the receiver. “I was just wondering if you were at Porter’s house already..” She bit her lower lip as she fished for info. Of course she wasn’t, Alice laughed to herself, she made sure of that by slashing the tires on Shane’s Cayenne this morning.

“Nope. I had some car troubles.” Shane answered plainly. “But Sam is already there.” She added after a few seconds.

“Of course she is.” Alice rolled her eyes, she was Bette’s best friend.. naturally she would be there first. She bit back her laughter before she continued. “Little ol’ me on the other hand, will be joining Porter and Sammy in just a few minutes..” She trailed off and smiled smugly.

“Really now?” Shane’s voice was laced with disinterest.

“Your four year reign is over Shaney!” Alice laughed heartily. “I beat you this year.” She smirked arrogantly as she arrived at the huge, tall gates of the Porter estate. It would take her a few more minutes to reach the mansion since she had to maneuver through the super long and winding driveway, but it was fine with her. After all, she did reach the place first. Shane had been kicking her ass for the past four years, but not now. Today, she would be able to greet Bette before the androgynous lothario did. Looks as if she would win their little competition this year, she grinned from ear to ear.

“Hey Al?” Shane called out, breaking her friend free from her celebratory thoughts.

“Yep?” Alice asked distractedly as she put down her window and waved at the guard. The stocky man nodded his head in recognition and gave a small salute as he walked over to the controls and pressed the red button to open the gate.

“Look up.” Shane grinned as she flipped her phone shut and ended the call.

“Wha?” Alice frowned when she heard the beeping sound coming from her cellphone. Why did Shane hung up on her? She rolled her eyes in annoyance. Wait.. did she say look up? She frowned and threw her phone on the seat beside her as she stuck her head out of the window and looked up at the sky. “What the..” She gasped in horror when she saw Shane waving at her from her helicopter up above as she passed by Alice’s car and headed for the mansion.
