    CHAPTER TWELVE: Spy On Me

It was lunchtime at Redwind Academy. The students sitting around the different tables inside the cafeteria scratched their heads in confusion as they looked at F4′s table up above. It was empty, and it didn’t seem like it’s regular occupants would arrive anytime soon. They glanced back up from time to time, feeling greatly disappointed that they would miss their usual noontime fill of Bette Porter and her friends.

Meanwhile, somewhere beside the soccer field outside, three figures were huddled together behind a huge bush, braving the mid-day sun. Bette and Shane were crouched on either side of Alice, looking up at the third floor balcony of the main building.

"Why are we spying again?" Shane turned to Bette as she wiped the beads of sweat forming on her brow.

"We’re not spying.. we’re observing Shane." Bette sternly replied, not taking her eyes off of her targets.

"Okay. So why are we "observing" Sam and Kennard?" Shane asked, fanning her sweating self with her hand.

"Cause Porter doesn’t trust Sammy and she’s jealous that her best friend gets to hang around with Kennard during break time." Alice answered matter-of-fact while spying on the interaction between Sam and Tina through the binoculars they "borrowed" from inside the gym instructor’s office.

"That’s not it." Bette snapped. "I’m just a little.. curious.. to see how Sam interacts with other people besides us." She reasoned out, failing miserably to convince her friends.

"Yeah right." Alice tore her gaze from the binoculars to roll her eyes at Bette.

"Anyway, give me that." Bette said irritatedly and reached over to grab the binoculars from the blonde’s hands.

Alice extended an arm to keep the binoculars out of the brunette’s reach. With a territorial growl, she swatted Bette’s hand away with her free hand. "Fuck no Porter!" She whispered sharply. "This one is all we have." She said through gritted teeth. She didn’t want to hand it over to Bette for fear that their hot-headed leader might throw it to the ground and destroy it when she sees something that would spike her jealousy.
