    Is Forever Over? Chapter 8

    Chapter 8

It’s a few weeks later and Bette has been well fed by Tina. They have yet to do the Zoo, but Bette does have an event in mind for the three of them. Bette is headed to Chicago for the weekend. Jodi is giving a lecture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since Jodi can’t spare the time to get all the way back to LA, Chicago makes perfect sense and is a great place for a romantic weekend. At this point Bette is looking forward to this very personal time with Jodi.

Scene: At the Planet, Bette is having lunch with Kit, Angelica is at preschool.

    Kit: Where are you staying?

Bette: The Hilton Chicago, its right up the street from the Art Institute. It has a great view of Grant Park. It’s on the Magnificent Mile, home to fabulous shopping and I intend to shop. I will probably get lost in the FAO Schwartz toy store there for Boo. Hopefully I can ship my purchases home.

The sisters laugh at the thought of Bette buying up the store for Boo.

Kit: So when do you leave? When do you come back?

Bette:  I’m flying out Thursday morning after dropping Boo at preschool. I’ll be back Sunday afternoon. Jodi’s talk is Friday at 6pm. I want to spend some time at the museum and school on Friday. Once those are over the weekend is ours.

    Kit: Anything special planned?

Bette: Well since I did the really grand gesture last time and I’m tagging along on her trip, I’ll leave that up to her. Feels a bit strange, but exciting too. With Tina I usually planned those special treats.

Kit: Well you deserve to be spoiled a bit, so let Jodi work her magic for you baby girl. Do  you need me to do anything for you while you’re gone?

Bette: No it’s a short trip so everything should be fine. Like I said I’ll drop Boo off in the morning and I’ll get her Monday night after work. How about we come by The Planet for dinner that night and we can catch up?

Kit: How about I bring your dinner to the house and we catch up?

    1. Touche’ my dear. Faith is a very powerful thing.Hopefully Jodi will be true to what she has been and will show her behind and make Bette wonder what the hell she is doing in Chicago and not at home with Tina and Angie. I don’t believe Jodi will make this a special weekend for Bette. At least, I hope she doesn’t. PPS

    2. Uh, I’m more of a Better than I TiBetter, so whatever makes Bette happy is fine with me. I believe your portrayal of a Bette reluctant to risk a repeat of the past is very realistic. She and Tina have gone through so much for more than two years that Bette would be crazy to give up where she is now without thinking long and hard. Bette knows how ugly it gets when it goes wrong between them. Could they go through that again and come out of it (if it didn’t work) and again be able to be good co-parents? I don’t think Bette knows.
