Incandescent glow: Chapter 10, A funeral and a field trip

“Umm…well, I can call birds.  And I see stuff differently now.  I can see auras and shit.  I can do glamour, too.  But that’s about it.”

“Hmmm…those are conscious powers.  Do you have any…that aren’t so easily defined?”  Merry asked, thinking of the pull she’d felt from the young woman.  “For instance, so you notice people being drawn to you…fascinated by you…”

Shane looked a little startled.  “You mean, like flirting and getting hit on?  Dude, that happens all the time.  Even before the faerie stuff.”

Merry seemed a bit relieved, her guess confirmed.  “It may have been a power that manifested even before your changeover.”

Maeve nodded her agreement.  “Yes, I did not even think of it, but it was there all along.”  She smiled, thinking of their first meeting.

“If this is an inherent trait, you might consider taking extra precaution when interacting with others, now that you’re coming into your powers.  The changeover, more than likely, has enhanced this ability,” the princess warned her.  “Since it’s also one of your more…active powers, you might find that other powers that come to you will be related.”

    “Related how?”  Shane asked, confused.

“Well, there’s sex, love, fertility…just a few of the things that may be affected, for good or ill.  But it could also be something more innocuous…like having a green thumb or knowing where to find water at all times.  We won’t really know until you have more experience as a full-fledged sidhe.”

Shane sighed, stretching out and leaning back—sprawled on the couch.  “It all sounds really complicated.  So, you’re essentially just telling me to go on about my business, but be careful about it?”

“Yes…and let us know if anything…unusual develops.”

“Okay…I guess that’s doable,” she replied with a grin.

“Now,” princess Meredith began.  “As to the real reason we needed to talk to you…”

Shane raised an eyebrow, giving her full attention.

“We weren’t able to find any leads on your father here in L.A.  However, we’ll be going to the faerie mounds in Missouri to meet with the Queen in just a few weeks.  Hopefully, there will be clues to be found in the sithen of the unseelie court.”

    “Clues?” Shane looked puzzled.

One of Merry’s guards spoke up.  “We will inquire…very discreetly, of course, about the faeries who might have been outside of the mounds at the time of your inception.”

“And if all else fails,” the princess stated.  “We’ll take you with us next time.”

    1. Killer! Where ya been? Hey, maybe I’m part Sidhe, I no good at seeing auras, but like Shane I can definitely see shit. I’ve lost count of how many times. I’m sorry I didn’t get to know Gordon better. Is Shane going to get grief from the Princess for being so informal?

    2. I haven’t read the series you’re crossing this over with but I thought you should know that I really enjoyed reading this. I do hope you’ll continue. :)
