“I feel like a heel,” Bette lamented.
“Why is that?” Helena asked, quietly and sympathetically reaching for Bette’s hand.
“For saying I hated you,” Bette murmured.
“And why did you?” Helena replied, caressing the palm she held.
“It’s a long story,” Bette said with embarrassment.
“I believe I have time,” Helena answered softly.
They stared into one another’s eyes.
“Bette. You seem very special to me. I felt it the minute I saw you. I haven’t felt that way since…well, since…Anne,” Helena confessed.
“The woman who sent you off on your extended holiday in Bordeaux?” Bette asked quietly.
“Yes.”
“That’s scary, Helena.”
“I know.”
Chapter 10
Bette lifted herself off the pillow, sitting up to place her glass on the table. As she did, Helena took another sip of wine.
Bette turned and watched her, then slowly extended her hand to remove the glass from Helena’s lips. She quietly set the wineglass on the table. Helena carefully studied Bette’s face. And it grew closer as Bette scooted towards her. Smiling slightly, Bette reached up to caress Helena’s cheek, first with the back of her fingertips, then rolling them over to tenderly trace them down to her neck.
The candlelight still softly danced, between and around them.
“I’m having a difficult time,” Bette whispered, as she gazed into Helena’s eyes, continuing to lightly stroke her face, “a very difficult time…keeping my hands off of you.”
Helena closed her eyes, enjoying Bette’s touch.
Bette ran her fingers through Helena’s hair and Helena opened her eyes.
“I’m having a difficult time resisting you,” Helena replied softly. “But I’m not really giving it my wholehearted effort.”
Bette smiled. Her hand wrapped around the back of Helena’s neck as she leaned in and pulled Helena’s lips towards hers.
“Sometimes you just know there’s no sense in fighting it,” Bette murmured, brushing Helena’s lips with her mouth. She breathed. Then opened her mouth and folded her lips around Helena’s.
It was the perfect kiss.
Helena felt enraptured. It felt, she thought, as if her spirit had taken flight and she was soaring. She clasped her arms around Bette, molding her body into hers. Both of their hands pressed into the other’s backs, pulling themselves closer to each other.

But, but, but……how about no more BUTS!!! PPS! Can’tw ait to read about Bette’s trip to the vineyard. And Alice is crazy; but Alice drunk is crazy hilarious :)
So happy to see this story. Nice pace. Well on to the “wineyards and vineries”. My name for them after too much sampling
whenever i read this story, i’m always drinking wine. in this case, a local thing…*hic*…that i can’t remember the name of…hehe…just kidding…well half kidding, it is going to my head rather quickly. adding to the heady feeling created by such a story. fantastic as always:) cheers pps
so freaking cute…and way to go alice…lol
what way to go Alice? KILL ALICE!! OOOH Bette is going to the vineyard and they are going to have a wonderful time…just wonderful, very sweet, very hot…..POST SOON PLEASE
Oh Z, I loved it until Alice rined the moment,,LOL,,not really it was so funny glad you put that part in………and loved the ending of Helena asking Bette to visit her at teh winery..can’t wait fo the next chapter
I noticed that Helena did NOT ask Bette to bring Alice along. As you clearly cannot take that woman anywhere, one really ought not to try. I think just leaving her home with her hangover will suffice and susannah is being extreme with her death threats.
hell yes..whosoever interrupts Bette and Helena’s loving must die!
Remind me to stay on susannah’s good side.
Can’t wait to hear Bette’s story. Alice is in sooooooooooooooooooo much trouble.
Oh yeahhhhh, definitely, she will come ;-) and hopefully, she won’t be the only one ;-)) — I feel just as drunk as Alice tonight, and yet, I swear I drank nothing but your fine nectar (hmm, the Meritage I mean, no need to think of anything weird) — Well done Zheese, I was just wondering how you could cool them off before they just burst in flame this time :-)) Alice was hilarious, and Johnathan is definitely my kind of man :-)
that was sooooo just like alice….how can bette hate her after that…what will she say…oh, i can only imagine the imagery that you will provide…sonoma is just lovely…
Of course what you were supposed to read was : ” can I just “say” that I love this stuff ? “…
Can I just that I love this stuff ? I don’t even want to try and analyse why at this point, I just love it ! You’re a magician, Z, and apparently you put a spell on us with your words for we are all completely hooked on this story…
Great update Z. He he Alice is just crazy! Now onto the vineyard … can’t wait :D
Great chapter. I love a drunk Alice. She brings the funniness to the story (i don’t know if that’s a word. lol) But it’s a great story and I can’t wait to see what will happen at Helena’s vineyard. PPS!
