In sickness and in love? – Chapter 3

    Chapter 3

A few days passes, Bette has still not told Tina. She knows that she should have told her right away, but couldnt get herself to do it. The pressure at work is starting to take its toll on her. She takes a break, and lay her head down on her desk, just as her phone rings.
Its Bette Porter. She says and sits up straight.
Hi, Bette its Dr. Wilson, do you have time to come in today? She asks
Its bad isnt it? Bette asks knowing the answer.
Yes, I am afraid it is. Dr. Wilson replies
Oh Bette just stare at her picture of Tina on her desk, a single tear exit her eye.
Bette, are you still there? Dr. Wilson says
Bette comes to herself again. Yes, Im here. She says.
Ill come by now. She continued
They hang up, and she calls in James
    Whats up he asks
Close the door. Bette said. He heard from her voice that it wasnt good news.
I got a call from Dr. Wilson. I need to get to the hospital. Could you cancel all my appointments for the rest of the day? If something important comes along, talk to Franklin or call me on my cell. Bette says as she packs up her things, and started walking towards the door.
Sure Are you okay? He asks giving her a hug of comfort.
Ill call you later, okay? She says. She then leaves.
The 10 minutes she used to get to the hospital, is the longest 10 minutes shes experienced. Was it really bad news or just bad, like, it can be fixed in no time? Was it curable, not curable? Did she have weeks, months or years? No Bette, dont think like that, youll be fine, she says to herself, as she parks the car outside the hospital.

    Dr. Wilsons office:

Hey, Bette, take a seat. Dr. W. says.
Bette does so, and looks at Dr. W.
I got the results back, as I said on the phone. What the test tells me is that you have cancer, its located in your right thigh-bone, and its slowly spreading, not fast, but slowly. Dr. W. says. Bette is shocked, and worried sick, how could this happen to her, shes always been healthy. Training and eating right, at least most of the time.
Before we go to the extreme and operate, Id like to start you on chemo, to see if we can stop this thing. If it doesnt respond to the chemo, well have to operate, and that will probably mean that we have to remove some of your thigh bone. But that is our last option. Dr. Wilson says. Bette only hears part of what she says. Her mind is wandering through a huge pile of thoughts.
What are my chances? Bette asks, as she looks right into Dr. Wilsons eyes.
We have to start treatment right away, but I believe that you will be okay. Could you come back tomorrow morning? She asks.
    Bettes mind wanders again.
Huh, oh back tomorrow, yes, I can come back tomorrow. Will I be able to work? Bette asks.
Yes, but you will have to take it a lot easier than usual, or else the body might get weaker because of the stress, and you might not respond fully to the treatment. Dr. W. says

    1. Oh this is going to be bad when Tina finds out she didn’t tell her. I’d be furious too. Honestly it would have been a better for her to share this with Bette. Now let’s see where you take us.
