Immortal Soul – Short Story
Stroking the side of her face on that field, I knew all of those around me were watching in amazement and confusion that she meant anything to me at all. We had done an excellent job of keeping secret what was secret – our love. But now I could care less who saw what meant most to me in the world. I should have shared the truth earlier, and she might not have been collapsed down on the ground before me; her head turned and her hair fallen over the side of her face. I remembered easily bringing her into my arms, the sheer need to protect her strengthening my entire body to lift her completely.
And now, building all of my strength up, I conquer the last few steps and continue toward my room; hidden from the eyes of judgement in every individual under my command. Even if it killed me, I would carry her to my bed – our bed – in my own two arms. I could feel her legs sway as I carried her, soft golden hair brushing against my arm, and I knew her safety was dependent on me alone.
As I heard a ragged breath escape her lips, I wanted to cry, but with all of my strength training still at the back of my mind, I was able to hold it in. It took everything in me to gain those last few steps before I laid her gently down. I would do anything for her. I would dive straight into the depths of eternal torture if it meant her promised comfort and happiness.
After moving to close my doors, sure I wouldn’t be bothered, I slowly walked back to the bed. Seeing this magnificent woman who had completely changed my life. Changed me. She was laying there, motionless, with her body directed one way, and her head the other. Her eyes still closed. She looked so utterly defeated, and yet there was a strength about her that would never die. A confidence about her choices and reasons that no one or thing could ever touch.
With tears now slowly gathering in my eyes faster than I could blink them away, I finally sat next to her and let myself take in her composure, or lack thereof. I swore to myself in that moment that I would keep her from all of this if she would just open those eyes again. No more lies, no more secrets and no more shame. There could be no shame in a love so pure.

Wow.
WWWWOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!1, hardly says it all. Please say there is more and that this is not a one-off. I want to know more about the child she was protecting, etc, etc, etc. Thanks for posting.
Nice.
Wow!!!
WOW, again. I couldn’t think to write a decent comment yesterday. The depth of emotion and the deep love expressed and the sorrow of not admitting that love between them was so heartbreaking. And very probably so heartfelt by everyone that read the chapter. Hope you can give us more background or explanation that tells us more about the time in which they lived and a bit more history. Loved that first chapter.
Thank you grindright.
Excellent and fantastic. Thank you.
This was a tear jerker.
Perfect!
That was beautiful.
ok. yeah…i’m in. graet beginning. can’t wait to read more. thanks for sharing and taking the time. lovin’ the simplicity of it all…
I think Byron himself could envy this story of yours! =) ( and with this sentence I didn’t mean to hurt some patriotic British feelings) the most impressing thing is that you were able to use some elements of this typical style which was used by Byron & co. too.deep emotions, mystery (you didn’t give us details), pain, tale-like circumstances (location of her room).so I have to say: do not pay attention to narrow-minded people who want to put you in a certain box. ;)
WOW just wow!
WOW! I’m totally speechless. I’ve been totally mesmerized by your writing.I really love how you wrote this fic, it’s full of emotions, full of literary beauty.I really hope that there’ll be more.
WOW AMAZING!
It was fantastic. just took my breath away!
It was painful and sad, but it was there in the background through the beautiful love that covered the two women.
I loved it!
