If it makes you happy – Chapter 21
“What do you think?” Tina asked as she turned back to face her ex-wife.
Bette cast her eye around the living room once more before offering a considered reply, “What you think is more important, T”. She was sure the entire apartment had been furnished out of Ikea and that was something that Bette knew she would never warm to, but if Tina would be happy here that was her first priority.
“Yeah, but I’m hoping that you’ll be spending time here too so I want to know it’s a place that you feel comfortable.” Tina watched as Bette looked out the large bay window with a thousand mile stare on her face. “Bette?” Tina called gently to try and regain the brunette’s attention.
“I think it’s a good option.” Bette replied with little enthusiasm. Tina pursed her lips as she watched Bette offer the reply without shifting her concentration from where ever it happened to be, at the very least Tina knew it wasn’t focused on the apartment she was looking to rent.
It was a good option, Bette continued to try and convince herself of that. It was new, and clean, and safe, the furnishings were all in good condition even if they weren’t anything she would ever want in her home. But this wasn’t her home and deep down she was having a hard time accepting that it would be Tina and Angie’s for however long. The idea of asking Tina to stay in her home, in their home, crossed Bette’s mind. In theory she had wanted Tina to move out, it had seemed to be the right decision when they first talked about starting over. However, standing in an unfamiliar apartment which was furnished to another person’s taste, the decision suddenly didn’t feel so right.
Bette turned away from the window and found herself alone in the living room. She heard a wardrobe door being slid open in one of the bedrooms down the hall. She went in search of Tina. Maybe they needed to give this idea of living apart some more thought.
“T?” Bette asked as she stood at the threshold of the master bedroom watching her girlfriend survey the wardrobe space.

this was just excellent as always. the images you provoke are beautiful. thx
It does take time to wash away uncertainty. To trust again given their history. Thanks for the genuine portrayal.
I can understand Tina’s disappointment but I can also understand Bette’s need to remain mum. I hope that they can move forward with their relationship.
Ouch! That had to hurt Tina to have tangible proof that Bette really does have trust issues regarding her. I am glad in the long run that Bette told her and hope that they keep working at reconciling.
“…hoping that their physical closeness might help when there were no words to ease the uncertainty.” Nicely written.
I like the last sentence of this chapter. Well written!
well, they need to learn how to be a couple again and even if it’s slow progress, at least they are going in the right direction…love will conquer all and i believe in tibette love
Bette should offer to move into this new place and leave “their” home for Tina and Angie to stay in while they sort it all out.
Articulate and well written as always. Thanks for the update.
They’ve got a long way to go, but at least the love is definitely still there. I think the time apart will help, really. Nicely done, hg. Thanks for the post.
wonderfully told, as always. I especially like that you portrayed the reality that years later in a relationship, it’s the emotion conveyed in someone’s face, not their words that matter. Well done.
This is good and Im with pattifloatn and let see more please, thanks!
Just as I thought, Bette did not tell Tina that Abby broke up with her,It was just Bette always doing what’s right for herself and not thinking about the fall out and then claiming I was just so weak and could not stop myself, I hate that bullshit excuse. She didn’t tell Tina because she wanted Tina to believe that she was actually competing with Abby for her affection and attention and ultimately her love and choosing her over Abby, when there was noone else in the picture. It had nothing to do with trusting Tina, it was just Bette being selfish.
