    Time to go home…

    “Please T, call me as soon as you are within cell phone range. I’m going to be craving the sound of your voice so badly by the time you get back from camping…you know I will be driving poor Milaine crazy.” The two women were standing in line to go through security at the airport. Tina had wanted to spend every second with Bette she could, before they had to say good-bye, and she figured this way they could add at least fifteen minutes onto their time together before she would have to step out of line. As always, they were oblivious to the looks they were getting from those around them, as they stood wrapped in each others arms, foreheads pressed together.

    “I will Baby. I’ll call as soon as I can get a signal. I can’t believe that I won’t be able to hear your voice for three whole days, and then three whole nights.”

    “Geez T, quit saying it like that. It makes it sound so much worse.” They scooted forward as the line moved a couple of feet. “I can do this…I know I can. I went for 15 years without talking with you, I can go three days….I know I can.”

    Tina giggled. “You sound like the little engine that could. I know I can, I know I can…”

    “Very funny!” Bette sighed, lifting her head up, kissing Tina’s forehead on the way. “Listen, I want you to promise me something.”

    Knowing Bette was about to get serious, Tina lifted up her arms in mock surrender. “Ok, ok…I promise not to have a threesome with Dan and Kathy while we are camping with the children.”

    Bette gave Tina an exasperated look, while casually glancing around to see the reaction of the people around them. “Tina…promise me that if things get too heavy, or someone doesn’t react well to your news, that you won’t let them make you feel bad. And that if for some reason you are feeling that way, that you will go and find the nearest land line and call me.”

    “Bette, I told you…”

    “I know what you told me Tina…just promise me…please. I can’t stand the thought that I will not be able to just pick up the phone and talk with you…to comfort you. This is a big deal what you’re doing Tina. Promise?”

    Tina reached up and laid her hand on Bette’s cheek. “I promise you. I will find a phone and call you if it gets bad. But Baby, I don’t want you worrying about this. Honest, I know my children, and I am not worried. My only concern is Dan, but even so, he would never make a scene in front of the children. Just in case though, I’m going to tell him in private, before telling the kids. That way we can form a united front, which is so important when talking with them about something big like this. They need to know that we are consistent in how we both feel.”

    Bette looked up to see that she was almost at the head of the line. She grabbed Tina again, holding on to her as tight as she could without hurting her. “I love you so much Tina. You being back in my life…us being together again…I don’t have the words to tell you how much this means to me. Three weeks ago, I was content with my life, grateful to have experienced love twice…which is twice more than so many people. But, even though I knew that at some point I would have to start dating again, I truly believed that my time for love had past. Now here I stand, with an incredible future ahead of me, filled with so much love, and a larger family as well.” Bette looked down and shook her head. “How can I ever thank you for what you are giving me Tina?”

    Tina reached up and cradled Bette’s face with both hands. “Baby…I can’t give you something that is already yours, and I have been yours since August 26, 1997…the day I walked into your gallery.” Tina looked up, realizing she had to step aside. “I gotta go Baby. Call me when you get home. We can talk tonight, and in the morning before I leave. Ok?”

    Tina gave her lover once last hug, leaned in and whispered, “You and me Baby…God, what a life this is going to be!”

    20. How do you do it? You made something as mundane as standing in line at the airport seem so full of love. You are just too good! I’m holding my breath for the Tina/Dan talk. Please don’t make me wait too long.

Sea…you have given us another beautiful chapter…I am so happy that you have stuck to your promise of taking your time and giving us a lovingly detailed view of their reaquaitance…I cannot wait for the journey you’re going to take us on to get them together in one home…excellent writing and believable dialog…can’t wait for Tina to tell Dan and the kids…bravo to the moon and back…10!!!

      Amazing job, as usual, Sea. I fall in love with your portrayal of Bette and Tina chapter after wonderful chapter. 5 doesn’t do you justice!
